We bought a pre-owned 2014 RZR from a dealership 2 months ago. It's got a 5.7L Indmar engine with 107 hours on it. The boat was inspected, serviced, and tested before we took possession. It's our first wakeboat and we absolutely love it. It ran wonderfully with no issues up until yesterday, when we were out on the lake idling between surf sets and the engine sputtered and died. It started up again, but a few hours later it sputtered and died again on idle, and we could not get it to run again. The engine would catch but it would idle very roughly, sputter and then die. The boat gave no warnings of any sort and the temperature was fine.
We pulled it out of the lake and checked the water separator and looked at the fluids. We couldn't find anything so we brought it to the small local Marine shop today. The mechanic at the shop couldn't find any issues and said it ran fine out of the water. We put it back in the water to test it, and the boat started and ran with no issues for about an hour before it backfired loudly when accelerating and then sputtered and died at idle. It would start back up but immediately sputter and die.
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going on? It seems to start and run fine when it's cold. It's about a 5 hour drive back to the city and the nearest Tige dealer so we'd like to try to solve this ourselves. We are going to check the fuel filter and the spark plugs (potentially replace them) and put some fuel stabilizer in. Any other insight or advice would be appreciated.
