I recently purchased a 2000 21V and have a question about the bilge pump. It runs fine, but doesn't get all the water out. It appears the pump is under the engine on the driver side close to the stern, but pretty hard to access. Has anyone figured out a way to move the pump or get it to get all the water out? I'm using the boat on brackish water, so I want to get any water out before it gets on my engine. I have a PSS shaft seal, so I don't get a lot of water in, but got some in the other day when my wife was driving with ballast full and went over our wake too quickly and got water over the bow.

I have the same boat. I've never understood why the bilge isn't at the low point. If you lift up the rear seat there's a fiberglass cover over the v-drive that comes off. It might be screwed to the floor panel that covers the fuel tank. You can easily access the bilge pump with the v-drive cover off. Some people add a second drain plug or pump next to the v-drive to get more water out. I've just been shop-vaccing the water out when we get home. One of these winters I'll add another pump. (There's nothing more permanent than temporary.)

I also have a 2000 21V Rider’s Edition. For what it’s worth, my bilge pump is located very close to the stern, not under the motor. It’s also an automatic bilge. Silly obligatory questions: How old is the pump? Is the pump big enough? Is there debris blocking the pump?

I took a closer look today. It is about half under the motor and half behind it (definitely not up where the v-drive cover is). But, there is definitely space that it could be moved farther back towards the stern. Anyone ever tried that?
Pedalmash, to answer your questions, it looks pretty old. Probably original. There was a little debris that I removed. But, it does pump water out of the bilge, just not all of it. It has a float that looks like it should turn it off and on, but the float doesn't seem to work. When I turn it on at the dash, it just automatically runs, even when I move the float up and down. Not the end of the world since I can manually turn it on and watch when it stops pumping water out.
I included a picture. The pump is on the right side.
I think I'll put the boat in the water tomorrow, put some water in the bilge, and see where it pools. Maybe then I can relocate the pump to that spot.Attached Files
