97 Tige pre2150wt throttle cable issues

Last weekend we were making our way back to the dock when all of a sudden the throttle control arm made a cracking noise and went a complete 180 pointing to the floor. The boat continued to idle which got us back to the boat launch which I was thankful for but we also noticed the bilge filled up with water to the bottom of the engine which was a bit shocking considering we had only just begun our way back and had been running maybe 20 min. The pump was on and running so I’m not positive why this filled up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this issue? Thanks

Wow. Sorry to hear that happened. Your boat looks to be in great shape! Nice Black Scorpion engine.

I haven't had any issues with mine. They were made by Morse. The handle itself is a Tigé item because it has the TAPS switch.
It looks like Morse was bought by TeleFlex who was bought by SeaStar Solutions. My guess is the cable either came disconnected or broke?

My guess on the water is the packing around the prop shaft. If it is original I would recommend replacing it with a PSS shaft. I will look for some of the old threads on this topic.

Thanks for the direction on the packing seal issues! Planning to pull apart the throttle arm and diagnose the drive shaft seal tomorrow morning before I place any orders on parts.

Had some major life delays slowing down my boat fix. I found that my throttle cable end piece snapped and that’s why I wasn’t getting any response. I’ve researched throttle cables but I’m not seeing the specific brass end piece that broke. Anyone have any suggestions?

That’s gotta be it. I just ordered one so we will see if it fits. Again thanks for your help!

I had to laugh at this one. I was at Lake Mead last month and my throttle wasn't working just like the OP had shared. I google searched the problem while on the water and this thread came up. Same exact problem 3 years later. My wife and son were laughing that I ended up fixing my own problem. I am replacing both the throttle and shifter cables while I'm fixing things. CCX63315 for the throttle cable and CCX63316 for the shifter. Just in case someone else or myself need the info in the future. The CCX633__ is the cable # and the last 2 digits are the length. In my case 15 and 16 feet. I'm assuming it worked for the OP since we never heard back.
