Anyone use an inverter for their lift?

I have a lead on a slip I like but no electricity. Anybody use an inverter to power a hydrohoist?
I was able to search out the amp and watt load of a blower motor at 10.6 Amps = 1252 Watts. Figuring in a good buffer zone I was figuring an 1800 Watt inverter would do the trick.

My buddy swears there is no way that this will work and that I will have to get a generator. Anybody have any real time knowledge on it?

I have an air powered lift. www.airdock.com
    I have been using a 1000w (2000w peak)inverter on it for over 2 years.
I don't think my electrical load is quite as high as yours. (refer to bottom of this page link below)

I haven't had any problems with running down the battery in my single battery setup.
I have just started using this lift on the Tige this year.
The past two years (2008-2009)I have used it on a Moomba Boomerang.

Great! So what do you think of the Air Dock? I was considering it but got a bit wary of having my fins on a rubber mat.

There is actually no difference between the Watts output of an 1800 generator and an 1800 watts inverter. The difference is, that a gen makes it's own 12V DC power and then converts it to AC, where as the Inverter will need a power supply such a a deep-cycle battery.

I do not see why it would not work with a the proper sized inverter and a means to replenish the battery.

Thanks CHP, I will let you guys know how it works out. I found a lift but not sure it has enough capacity. Headed down tomorrow to check it out.

The Airdock has worked for us. We are on a community dock on an easement and would have to hire it out to have a regular lift placed in our slip.
The gap between the two chambers runs right down the midline of the boat where the tracking fins are located.
