Questions from a new to me Tige owner

Well I have been on the forums for a couple months now asking questions and looking to buy my first Tige. I have looked at everything from 2001 2100 v's up to the 2005 22v, although my dream boat has always been a 22ve even though it was out of my price range. Well I'm happy to say that I am finally a Tige owner and was able to come away with a dream boat due what appeared to be a too good to be true deal. I walked away with a 2007 22ve for what I almost paid for a 2005 22v. Needless to say, I am ecstatic, and will need lots of questions answered as I get to know the boat. That being said, my first question involves the battery switch. The boat has 2 batteries’ both of which are starting models. The switch is a 2 position type with on/off. My question is, when the switch is in the on position, everything works fine and the boat can be started. When in the off position, t thought that it was supposed to kill all power to the boat. Even though the ignition system is inactive, the remaining accessory’s are still powered (navigation and docking lights, radio, etc.) Is this correct? I realize that most people like to be able to isolate their starting battery from the battery that supplies their stereo system so they don’t get stranded, but I was under the impression that you needed a 3 position switch battery 1, battery 2 and off to do this. Since I plan to upgrade the audio system from the basic system that came in the boat, I just want to see if I need to upgrade to a 3 position switch, or will this work by turning the 2 position switch to off while hanging out cranking the stereo, and then to the on position to start the boat? Thanks in advance and i'm sure I will have many more questions in the future.

That is the way mine was wired when I got it, but I only had one battery. It is still pretty much the same, but I added a second battery and a three position switch so I can isolate each battery if needed.

Congrats Is the boat new or used, used i'm guessing, but ya never know, a dealer mat have still had a new on the lot!

The Tige EIDB (dual battery setup) is actually a pretty good setup. To answer your question, yes, it sounds to be wired correctly as from the factory. The on/off switch basically works as not-so-sophisticated anti-theft system as it basically just prevents the engine from starting. Most of the accessories will still function.

Tige uses a diode style Isolator to separate the "House" and "Starting" battery. The output wire from the alternator is connected to the center post of the Iso and the 2 battery +'s are hooked to the 2 outer posts. When the engine is running, the alt voltage passes through the diode (a diode is a one-way electrical valve) and allows both batteries to be charged. When the engine is off, the diode prevents the load on one battery from drawing off the other. So, you can run the house battery dead and still fire up and return to the dock.

This switch will not need to be changed when you upgrade the stereo, but there is one huge advantage to the 1/2/BOTH/Off switch - it will allow you to start the boat off the house battery in the event that the starting battery takes a crap on ya.

Now, tell us what stereo components are installed in your boat? Tige uses some damn good stuff from the factory, but many dealers like to order the boats with little to no stereo and then do their own. Tige basically had 3-4 levels of stereo options: base level had 4 cabin speakers and a head unit (maybe 1 remote on the drivers side). Next level got a 3rd pair of cabins (for a total of 6 speakers), a 10" sub (receiving 420 watts), and a 5 chnl amp. I think this level also got a set of tower speakers, but cant remember. The "Tower of Power" option had 1-2 pairs of tower speakers and a 4chnl amp to drive them. I think a transom remote was also included.

So, depending on what you have in the boat and what you want to do as an upgrade, the only real need on the battery system, may be to add a 2nd deepcycle (the one "starting" battery that is running the stereo and other accessories needs to be swapped out for a deepcycle) so you have a 3 battery, 2-bank system - one main battery for starting and 2 deepcycles wired in parallel for the stereo.

chpthril, thanks for the info. The boat was gently used 20 hrs. Some may have seen it on ebay. Had to hit the buy it now, seemed like to good a deal to pass up. I just posted in the stereo thread concerning the current components and upgrade questions. I look forward to your thoughts.

I am just across the river from you in Cincy (Western Hills). Although, I'm originally from NKY (Ft. Mitchell). I'm just over here spreading the gospel.

I'm a firefighter in Covington. Although I have owned boats over the years, they were mostly for my fishing trips to Canada. Still have a 18' Starcraft that I fish from. Have enjoyed skiing for years, but am just learning the whole wake board and surfing thing. At 46 yrs old, probably a little late, but I have a couple kids that I hope will get interested. We plan to visit Cumberland quite a bit since my sister and brother in law have a condo down there. They have a Malibu 23 LSV and thats where I got my first taste of the wake board thing. Also plan to do Laurel lake as well since i have some co-workers with a camp down there. Other than that we might hit one of the local lakes now and again
