    normal oil pressure

What is normal running oil pressure? this weekend I was running about 60psi at speed and then running at slow idle speeds the oil pressure would drop down to 30-40psi. I never noticed the swing in pressure before. Is this normal?

the last 2 times out mine will run 40+ and then when comming off of throttle to nuetral it will go down to "0" and has set the alarm off. Changed the sending unit but still does this w/out the alarm now.

that sounds perfect to me. I own one and sell/service them they will awlays go up at speed and drop down some at idle. you are fine.

I assume you checked the oil level. What viscosoty oil do you use? How old is the oil?

Be very careful. This can be a sign of a spun bearing. Although sometimes it's just the gauge going bad, or as you said... the sending unit.

This is exactly what mine was doing on the weekend of the 4th right before my #7 cylinder puked it's guts and the oil pump failed. It took all weekend before anything happened.

Dale, check and see if your engine has 2 sending units.....one for gauge, one for alarm. Could be that the other needs replacing or the adaptor is gummed up and needs cleaning.

I couldn't find this post. sorry. I am going to put a manual gauge on it just to see. I have had the boat out a couple of times since the alarms and it runs fine, just shows a drop in oil pressure when I go back to neutral, I just never nocticed it drop to "0".

Chp - I plane on getting down to Norman sometime this month, hope you can make it. When are you going to Lake Mead?

Funny about checking the oil, my engine is NEVER level. Even in the water. I checked, rechecked and rechecked and it always looked high by about a full quart. So I drained about 3/4 of quart and the alarm stopped. I change my oil at the end of every season. It will get done in a month or so. I use mercruiser oil 25-40 w/ moisture adhibitors in it (just what the manual calls for). Since then I have changed the sending unit but haven't heard the alarms either.
