    Trailer brakes

Ok I have an Extreme trailer and can't seem to keep the little tab ,that prevents the trailer from applying the brakes while backing, from falling out. Any suggestions?

Is there no reverse solenoid? That is if you have disc brakes. If you have drums they should allow you to back, or they might need adjusting, that's how drums should usually work, of course terrain has a lot to do with that. That being said, when I had a trailer that had the little tab, I used a piece of small diameter, p-cord size line to go through the little ear on the tab that had a hole in it, then around the coupler and a simple knot, that held it in every time I needed it.

Oh yeah, I have disk brakes. I don't think there is a solenoid on my trailer.

        You need a solenoid.

Disc brakes generate full braking power in reverse whereas drum brakes do not. If your actuator (typically located on the trailer tongue) does not have a reverse lock out lever or switch, a reverse lockout solenoid should be installed at the actuator before installation of disc brakes.

Wow, that's a first I have heard of if they were put on from the manufacturer. I would get one, you will have to wire a reverse lead to it. Answer this, is the connector for the trailer a 5 pin or 4? If it is five then your vehicle and trailer are already wired for one, which is good. Then you just need to put one in. They are cheap,~&15. If there is one already in there it might just be busted or have a bad connection.

I think I have a 5 pin connector. I will take a look after work.

Upon closer inspection I found the ground wire(white) to be broken where the trailer folds. I hace repaired it and will find out soon if i can back up! Thanks for the info @ the solenoid.

5 pin indicates that you have a backup solenoid. Good luck!
