Aft storage compartments

Can anyone tell me if one can drill drain holes in the floor of the aft storage compartments on either side of the engine bay? As if the boat didn't stay damp enough in the past, now that I have ballast sacs in there, I'd like to find a way to keep it as dry as possible without having to pull the sacs out every trip.

I wouldn't because the main stringers are located right there. It might be better to pull the carpeting and Rhinoline it.
