    Fuses and Flooding

    A few issues with my 1998 22i

    1. There are about 7 switches where the "popper" fuses are on my dash. 3 of them work (blower, nav lights, aux) and the other 4 seem to have issues because my horn, radio, bilge and other aux does not work. They all feel the same, ie, havnt been "popped" so I dont know what gives. Nothing looks out of place under the dash as far as wires go. Any advise before I start ripping wires apart?

    2. I have had my boat for 6 years and pulled many people. Last weekend I had 8 people (in there, 4 of which sitting on the back bench. I have never really flooded my boat before but I came pretty close last weekend. There was no visable water entering in while we were out there but the next morning the boat was sitting much lower in the water than normal - as it was full of water right up to the carpets. Of course we pulled it out and did the obvious checks (plug, cracks, vents...). and then put it back in the water and look for water comming in. Although the blower hose was cracked, there was really no source or water coming in. So, the only thing I can think of is when I slow the boat down after a skier wipes out, I flood the back of the boat with the wall of water catching up and the weight of the 4 guys sitting in the back. I know I should only have hot chicks back there, but it was out of my control that weekend.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    I'd check to see if you're getting power to the switches. I'd also think about replacing your automatic bilge pump since it's clearly not working.

    Also, check the connections behind the dash for all of these...it's possible you have a blown fuse somewhere. I think there are some in-line automotive type fuses attached to your ignition switch. You'll just need to trace them and check them...then use a multi-meter to make sure you're getting power to the switches.

      Have you ever replaced the packing on your prop shaft?

      Was the engine running when you were checking for leaks?

        Thanks for the advise folks.

        I know there is no power going to the 4 bad switches because the red indicator lights dont light up like the other 3 that are working. I didnt recall any inline fuses anywhere underneath but will have a closer look when Im under the dash next time.

        I have not ever replaced the packing on the prop shaft. I checked for leaks with the boat running and not running. Still nothing visable comming in.

        I have also heard from others that a hairline crack can open up while turning agressivly and sealing up when not, thus letting some water in. I didnt notice anything amiss while underneath the boat but is this something that could happen as well?

        Im stressed!

          If I remember right, there is retro on those breakers.

            More Flooding of Hull

            So, upon closer inspection of the inside of the hull while in the water, I still have water comming in. So, I sucked out everything with a shop vac, and dried it with rags, still to see water seeping in...kinda from a spot I cant see too well from the engine compartment. I suspect its leaking in through some of the bolts that hold some of the external hardware on, like the rudder, fins ect. Is this possible? Is it common? Should I basically unbolt everything and re-silicone and torque back on???

                Doesn't your boat have a panel behind the engine that removes? It should be part of the floor and carpeted and extend under the rear seat. It is there to give you access to the prop shaft seal and steering cable. With that panel removed you should be able to get a good look back there with that panel removed.

                  Yup, it does for sure. But the water doesnt appear to be comming from that part or near the transom at the back. It looks like its comming in from the hull in front of the engine underneath the floor where its hard to get at.
