    Boat Died

Just puchased a 2004 22V 335 HP. We were out yesterday and it got very windy hit a large wake and the motor shut down. Tried to start it and it would crank but not fire. Stuck on the columbia in a wind storm and no power is no fun. When the key was on it was giving an loud alarm but I could not figure out what it was. After 15-20 Minutes of pulling fuses the boat then started. What the heck, owners manual says nothing, perfect pass says nothing and I did not have it on.

    Thanks for any help

Did you take any water over the sides? Sounds like the kill switch came dislodged!

      boat died

Nope no water over the bow it did a tail stand and I found it broke the taps2 cylinder off at the mount. Ran fine all day today until the ride when it got bumpy. The boat did not die but the taps sounded an audable alarm and reset when we hit the rough stuff.

I would have to agree w/ chp. Sounds like the kill switch, especially due to the rough water. I had a boat once, that I couldn't start. The kill switch was the first thing I checked. It didn't work.

A stranger hopped aboard to help me, and first thing he did was jiggle that. I was like, I already checked that. He turned the key, and it fired right up. I was kind of dumb founded.

The water was that rough that you seriously broke the taps hydraulic?????

The columbia does this funny thing 0-60 in 3.8 seconds that is wind speed. Yep it broke the taps2 right at the lower mount. So I took the plastic pin out and removed the mount drilled two holes put in two stainless screws through the mount and into what was left in the cylinder it screwed up tight, then I wrapped the broken area with duct tape ( gotta use duct tape) and put a commercial hose clamp around the area where the break was cinching on both sides. I ran it all day Monday and it got rough again and it worked great.

So on the kill switch the only thing I have is the key this boat does not have a layard like my last one unless I'm missing it somewhere. The boat died as soon as it hit hard and then would crankl over fine but would not fire as soon as I pulled all the fuses and replaced them after checking and finding none bad if fired right up.
Man it sucked working on the bost in high winds and waves while 30 yard from a rock bar.

04 wont have a kill switch.I can not think of anything that would make the taps set an alarm.that alarm you hear is the same one you hear if you just turn the key on.wich to me would indicate that you lost keyed power(purple wire)the same wire that would be hooked to a lanyard if you had one.did the gauges read when it would not start?Kind of hard with out so more info but sounds to me there is a bad/loose connection on the purple wire.Did you hear fuel pumps running?find the purple wire on the key switch make sure screw is tight on switch and then follow it. see if you find any loose connections.hope this helps if not let us know more info if you can.Or if you do find something let us know.

All gauges worked fine I was trying to listen to the fuel pump but with the wind and everything going off it was difficult to hear as the first thought was a connector had come off the fuel pump. I will check the wires as I would bet that as I checked all the fuses under the dash I moved a wire enough to get a wire to connect and that is why it started after that.
Gotta love the quirks of a new boat.

I had a very similar problem on my 03 22v right after I took delivery from the dealer. After getting towed in for the second time I said enough is enough, the dealer ended up replacing the whole ignition wire harness. That was six years ago and I have not had the problem since, even on the rough waters of the Columbia river where I have boated for the past three summers.
