Any know of a Reliable Boat Radio Line?

Anyone know of a radio line that has been around awhile, offers a mounted remote, and is good quality?

My Sony is less than 2 years old and evidently Sony has quit the Marine Biz, and the Tige dealer wants $150 for the remote disc that is probably not going to last.
My head unit has never worked very well either.

Sooo, time to change to a new line. Preferably a line that will be here in a few years.

I've seen multi remotes on some boats.
Inside and on the swimstep,, but that company folded too.

    Thanks.

There are a number of companies making marine stereos. I have the Clarion Marine CD unit that I ordered with the boat. I've got two display type remotes, one by the driver and one on the stern. I've also got two Clarion amps. I've had the system for two years and so far no problems.

I would like to upgrade to the new Clarion XMD3 because it has built in satelite radio and seperate aux input for an Ipod, but that's hard to justify right now.

    Good luck with your search.

I'm starting to think Clarion is the way to go.
Can you find spares for it?
Have you had to replace anything?
      Are remote replacements available?
Do they hold up to water?

      Thanks

They seem widely available. Many of the Marine retailers sell Clarion (Overtons, Barts, Boaters World etc.). The front of the unit is supposed to be completely water proof. Other boat manufacturers use Clarion as well, like Correct Craft.

I have not had to replace anything.

Even in rough water the CD player rarely skips. I'm pretty happy with it, and I should be because it was not cheap (I paid $1200 for the head unit, 6 Clarion coaxial speakers, two tower speakers (Kickers), two amps, and two remotes, installed).

Clarion seems like that's the way to go.
My Tige isn't even 2 years old and now this.
          It's gonna be more $$$$$.

remember, stereo companies change their product line every year. always something bigger and better. before declaring that clarion ,or any manufacture, is the answere to all your problems check to see how long they keep old, obsolete, products in stock or production. that is the biggest problem we see with most suppliers these days, it costs too much money for them to keep making out dated products.

as for spending more $$$$, remember this

Ebay is a great place for Clarion Marine products, from head units to speakers to remotes. Really tough to beat the prices. I also am looking to update our receiver. I really like the new Clarion CMD4 but the faceplate size is smaller than the XMD3 which fills the void in my dash better. The new CMD4 has 3 sets of preamp outs which provides alot of options for amps. Let me know what you end up with. Martin
