Alarm on Constantly with Key Turned to ACC and...

Some background: So I just bought an '02 Tige 20i with a 350 Merc (surprised it's carbureted and not injected, but simple I guess). Started fine when we bought it. Got it home. Now it wont start. Traced it back to fuel (spray some starter fluid and it fires right up) so I know I'm getting spark, but it falls on it's face. SO... the annoying part is when I turn the key to ACC the alarm comes on and stays on. Any idea if these are related or separate issues? Oil pressure builds fine. There is plenty of fuel. It was filled with stabilizer before winter. Any and all help is appreciated! Hoping this is an isolated incident and doesn't jade me toward Tige or Merc.

If it's relevant: I'm getting ready to do oil, oil filter, fuel filter (inline), water separator, and impeller and hoping it's a clogged filter or something simple. Thanks guys (and gals?)!

    -Brian

Is the alarm a constant buzz or a beep beep beep? Are you sure its carbureted and not throttle body injected? Will it start on it's own without fluid or it won't even fire at all? While using starter fluid, will it stay running if you give it throttle?

It's a long, loud and constant buzz. My understanding is it's supposed to turn off after two seconds when you first key on. So I'm curious what "conditions" would cause it to not turn off with KOEO. Battery voltage is FULLY charged. Doesn't start on it's on. Doesn't stay running. So far.... Is it okay to let it dry run for 30 seconds or so....? I always hear "don't!" because of the impeller (which I'm about to replace anyway).

Definitely carbureted. One fuel line, no electrical connections other than the choke. Have even considered using an affordablefuelinjection.com kit but dealer says don't.

Still have no start issue. However, dealer confirmed the long alarm WILL stay on anytime key is turned to ACC and advised to install a 4 position switch with a turn back for audio and such. So that is alleviated. Hoping plugs, filters etc fixes my no start!

Yes the constant alarm is normal, not all boats had this option installed. It's an oil pressure alarm ignition on not running it will be constant due to no oil pressure. May also want to check your spark arrestor for cleanliness, plugs gapped properly, and distributor cap/rotor are clean and dry.

So if battery is hot and it runs with starter fluid... are you getting any fuel? have you checked your fuel pump? Unhook fuel line at carb and see if you get fuel there when you try to start..

Fuel, Air, Spark, Compression. Need all four for a properly running engine. I agree your sparking if your getting it run on ether. Fuel/Air are left and it's rarely an air issue on these. Which leaves fuel and compression.

Fuel Pump/Filter-check for inline filters as well.
May also want to make sure your fuel tank vent is clear of water and any critters.
Also what could also help is pull all the spark plugs out and crank the motor over a few times (yes I know it won't start but will clear any garbage fuel/water stuck in the cylinder)

              Keep us posted

Then you are in RUN and dont actually have an ACC position. In this case, yes, the buzzer will sound with in RUN and engine off.

I had a 2000 5.0 merc, my lanyard was bumped. The cord was not pulled off, but the toggle was out of position. It would repeatedly start for 3-5 seconds, then shut shut off. The safety system with the lanyard would shut off the ignition only after the oil pressure would rise. I thought it was a carb/fuel related issue. Wasted an entire 80 degree weekend, and blamed my wife for flooding it. At it turned out the oil and ignition system was tied together with the safety lanyard. It might not be your problem but it is a easy thing to check.
