Speedometer question

So, my stock speedo is on the fritz. It will go from holding a speed, to zero and back again. I checked the pick up in the back of the boat and it works just fine, and doesn't appear to be loose or anything. Any ideas? My perfect pass works just fine. Thanks in advance.

If it's not a paddle wheel, then you may need to force air through it because you probably have some debris stuck in there. It also could be that the tube is pinching somewhere (it's just air pressure).
