    2010 24Ve - adding/upgrading house battery

Our single house battery is on its way out. We noticed it a couple weeks ago, but we confirmed it this weekend. It's a 24 series Interstate Deep Cycle Marine.

I don't have the boat here with me at the house & it was raining when I put it away. Which option would you guys recommend - \

Anyone know what kind of room I have to work back there? I don't have it here unfortunately. I think I remember having about 4" of height that I can use, but I don't remember any dimensions of usable width.

A good maintenance routine if key to a battery's life span. How its used will dictate the maintenance routine. If spend any length of time at anchor with the tunes playing, then the game is all about battery Ah's. The more Ah;s you have, the more you may need to rely on shore charging. The more batteries you have, the less each gets run down. Shallower cycles is better for battery life. In summery, all 5 option are viable

Its a tight fit, but you can fit a group-24 cranking and up to a group-29 deep-cycle side by side. The other option is to add a 2nd house battery over on the starboard side.

So I could do a Group 29 in the current location, then add another 29 over by the Taps pump? What size of wire should I be using to link them together?

I had even thought that I might be able to turn them sideways from where they're at now & possibly fit 3 - 24 series side-by-side (2 house & 1 cranking). I didn't have a chance to measure it all out unfortunately.

Even turned side ways, 3 will not fit without one spilling over the floor and hanging over the bilge. To connect a 2nd house to the existing house, 1/0 is best.

I would like to look at doing this too. Does anyone have a diagram for how to wire up the second house battery?

Connect the B+ post of the existing house battery to the B+ post of the new battery

Running 1 24 series cranking and 2 24 series house, went with the option is to add a 2nd house battery over on the starboard side. CHP - haven't check with you in probably 3 years on this. I kept the OEM Switch and EIDB in place. Went with the PRO MARINER 3 Bank onboard charger. Has it been determined that I should improve this configuration since I put this in in 2010?

Sounds like its working good for you. IMO, the only down side of the Tige EIDB setup is that the it uses a simple on/off switch, which doesnt allow to use the house bank as a backup starting battery. Re-configuring to add in a traditional dual-battery switch would accomplish this.
