    FML ALARM

Ok so here are the symptoms.... 2005 22v, Marine Power, Single Batt system

    1. Alarm/Warning sound starts as soon as I switch the perko to on without key in ignition
    2. Alarm/Warning sound continues in all ignition switch positions but sometimes will randomly turn off
    3. Moving key to any switch position will set alarm off which intermittantly continues for up to a minute after key/off removed
    4. Stereo will not turn on

Any help is appreciated, I even unhooked all aux leads from the battery and tested it again, same situation and nothing in the electrical system was changed over the winter and everything worked fine. I checked all of the connections under the dash and all of the fuses I could find. If I had a wiring diagram it might make it semi possible to trace the faulty connection but as of this moment I was thinking of swapping a new ignition switch in first.

    HELP!!

Oh yeah, I call it the FML ALARM because as soon as it went off today that was the first thing through my mind....

Single battery system? Then what style of switch is it that you are turning on and off?

Did you pull the battery for winter or has this just randomly started after a few successful outing?

Tell me more about the stereo set. Where any mods done recently? This may sound backwards, but I would trace the cause of the stereo not powering up first. Sounds like there is a cable either left off or connected to the wrong post.

Yes it is a single battery system. Took the battery out over the winter and kept it on a tender. The "Perko" switch is the one that I was switching from "I"(green) to "OFF"(red). The stereo was upgraded(new cockpit speakers, 2 JL 8's on the tower with a JL amp, but that was back in 2010 and everything worked fine up until now. I had the boat out for a quick test run a few weeks ago but didn't try the stereo because it was pretty much just 10 minutes to make sure the motor was good.
This morning as soon as I switched the Perko from off to battery the symptoms above started. I checked most of the connections to the AMP's and head unit, all looked correct and in good condition and I was getting feedback from the tower speakers, but that may be another issue...

The thing that really confuses me is that the alarm is going off with the key out of the ignition. I thought that the key had to be in the "on" or "aux" position for power to go to the electrical system. Is it possible that the ignition switch is bad and that is why the alarm continues randomly after the key is out of the ignition?

      Thanks again for advice!

It is one of two 3A/100PIV rectifier's that is(was) hooked up to my nav light and tower light(5 75w halogens) accessory switches... it blew... although... in my excitement for finding something obviously broken I prematurely posted... I replaced it and the alarm still sounds. I'll get a pic of the Mcc 5401 posted tmw.

My poor XMD3 still doesn't turn on. I checked the fuses to it, both good, and there is power to it(12.6v to the yellow wire and 11ish(v) to the red.) So its getting power, but still doesn't work. Is there another way to test it? I'll get a pic of it posted tmw. If anyone has a working xmd3 I'll gladly take it off of their hands so I don't have to replace my cockpit and transom remotes as well.

Next up is to pull my ignition switch and test it as I'm still getting power to the accessory switches with no key in the ignition, and turning any of the accessory switches on with the key in accessory turns on all of the gauges like the ignition was in the "on" position.

Any ideas are still greatly appreciated as I'm dead on land until I get this fixed... And if anyone can suggest a new sirius ready head unit since mine may be fried I'm open to suggestions... Or I'll buy a working XMD3

And the problem is solved! I feel like an idiot for doing this but after getting the entire wiring diagram for an 05 22v(Thanks Harvey @ Tige!!) and chasing every wire to its termination.
              Here is what I found:
              A. 3 loose grounds
              B. two incorrect crimps tower lights installed by the dealership I bought the boat from, prob 3 strands still good/connection
              C. one blown inline rectifier(MCC5401) on tower light switch
              D. and the final culprit... One ground for the accessory power bar not connected to the battery...(IMA Dummy)
              E. oh, and a partridge in a pear tree

But now that everything is connected, she works like a champ! Sooo if you get a warning(FML) horn with the key in accessory position, accessory switches put the gauges in run mode, and your radio wont turn on, check your grounds. All of mine are now zip tied in a bundle so I can't do this again! Next up, re-tuning my amp's!

Thanks for posting the update! Glad you figured it out. I have been chasing down all my grounds and checking them as I have a FML alarm going off. I am amazed at the crappy connections that are used by the factory when it can be such an issue! I wouldn't use their connections on my home stereo let alone a marine application!
