Please Hellllp - Rule Mate Bilge Pump Issue

My old pump broke where the outlet hose connects so I had to buy a new pump. The new 500GPH Rule Mate has the internal float.

Wires are all the same on both units so I connect black to black then brown with white stripe to brown with white stripe and check the manual override switch at the helm. Hit the switch and pump comes on...perfect so far.

Then I connect brown to brown. Brown is the constant hot for the pump to operate in automatic mode. Problem is when I touch brown to brown the pump runs and won't shut off. Tried the same set-up with the old pump and all works the same except it doesn't run when brown touches brown which is the way it should be.

Is my new pump no good?

check the float isnt stuck, causing the pump to be turned on

Those new internal switch pumps are kinda goofy. I've installed a few of them and most have some kind of weird issue like that. We've usually been able to turn off the battery and then that seems to reset the pump brain, but still not as reliable as the old school float switches.
