My '03 has the Batt1/Batt2/both/off perko switch, but I'm not sure if it has the isolator or not. When I installed the new stereo system (thx chpthril for the tech support) I ran new wire directly to the port side battery, with circuit breaker, bypassing the perko switch. The ignition wire for the stereo is still wired to the key switch, however.
My question is, is there any reason to not leave the perko switch to both at all times (besides when not in use) since the stereo bypasses the perko? Under normal conditions, my understanding is the perko can be switched to the deep cycle battery for extended stereo use. Then to both for normal use.
Also, does the alternator charge both batteries if the perko is switch to all settings besides "off", or just the battery its switched to?
