    Tachometer not functional

Hey guys. Thanks for all the feedback on previous issues. All your help is greatly appreciated.
That said, I have an issue with the tachometer on my 2001 tige 21i.
It is stuck at the 1800 rpm line and does not move at all (even when starting the engine, idle engine, wide open throttle, or engine off).

It's as if the needle is jammed/stuck. Would this be an electrical issue? Or an actual problem with the physical tachometer?

    Thanks.

    Most likely the tach.

Disconnect the wire from the "S" terminal at the back of the tach and attach a 10' section in its place and connect that to the negative side of the ignition coil on the engine. See if it does the same thing. Also check the positive and negative power wires going to the gauge as well. Replace as required.
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...

Mine was stuck at 3k and I just replaced it. Replacement was 180. It's under warranty but I didn't want to be without a tach while it got fixed

duffy...what year and model boat? i have a 2000 21i and my tach operates some of the time but gives crazy readings other times and now the hour meter just reset to 0, hit 10.0 and reset to 0.0 again.

did you shop the $180 price? did this work?

Does this have to be connected to the negative side of the ignition coil? Or can it just be to ground? If so where exactly is this found on the Mercruiser 350?

My 2005 isn't going to be the same. Talk to your local dealer.
