    Starter Fuse Blew

Put my Z1 on the water and go to start...nothing. I check the fuses and the 20A starter fuse is blown. In an emergency situation, I stole a 40A fuse from the amp cables and she started right up (but it sounded like it turned a little hard?).

First of all, yes, I know it's not the best idea to put a 40A fuse where a 20A fuse belongs.

Obviously, I need to find why that fuse blew so it doesn't happen again and I get stranded. My gut instinct is that the starter needs replaced (long story but yes, it has been wet) but is there anything else I may be missing before I drop the bucks for this?

If your starter got wet AND the fuse blew when you tried to start it, you're on the right track. $50 on ebay, offset bolt pattern marine hi torque starter from Caltric, for small block chevy. I have been using one on my boat just to verify they're good and have had no problems in 2 years and 250 hours (saltwater too).
Fixing everyone elses boat just so I can use mine...
