Airmar depthfinder troubleshooting

My depthfinder is displaying 500’ to 507’ depth constantly. I am new to boating and have a 2008 tige z1. I found the transducer inside and outside of the hull. The Speedo seems to work great. I am looking for advice on where to start and what to do to troubleshoot. I unplugged the cable to the transducer and turned the boat back on. It still showed 506’ on the dash. Plugged back in and restarted. Same reading. I am assuming it is something going on besides the transducer itself? I would think it would show nothing with it being unplugged?

They do go bad. Im not sure how to diagnose the older ones. Later versions that talk on the CAN are pretty easy. 12v, ground, Can hi, can low. If all of those are good ducer is bad.
