    Won't turnover, just "clicks"

My 2000 21i has been sitting of about 2months now and I was gonna take her out to run some stabil through her. In the driveway I tried to turn the engine over and only her a "click" under the engine cover? The batteries are good b/c I had them connected to a battery tender(at least the battery tender showed they were good). I guess the clicking is coming from the soleniod? Any words of wisdom on what to check?

Hate to say it but i bet its batteries. Its got enough juice to get the solenoid but not enough to crank. Try hooking up a jell pack to it and see what happens. That should let you know

If it's just one click it could be your starter. But I would first check your connections, make sure there is no corrosion build up. Also check the cables connected to the starter. If that does not work, when you try to crank it, have some one with a mallat tap the side of the starter. If that makes it turn over then your stater man Ned rebuilding.

If is cranking several times then your starter is fine, check your connections, maybe try a starting battery and not a deep cycle.

I agree w/ somebodyelse5. I just added 3 amps this summer and my battery is dead. I had a tender on it also. This was the 2nd time it drained. I put a jumper on it and it fired right up and ran fine. Once I shut it off it wouldn't start w/out the jumper. I need to find out what is draining my battery also. I know the clock runs, is there anyway to disconnect it w/out messing up the other gauges?

let my know what you find, I may try and go through mine this wkend since I won't be able to get the boat out of the yard w/ all the rain we are having. I will post what I find.

Have you had an excessive amount of water in your bilge at anytime?

If your connection look alright I think you have a dead spot in the solenoid. just take a hammer and tap it that usaly works then try starting it.

are you asking me or Double?

In my case sometimes yes when I take water over the bow, but it is only for that day until I pull the boat out of the water.

Unfortunantly yes I have had a lot of water in the bilge. It rained several inches when I was out of town and water like a dummy I had left my plug in. Water was up into the floor of the boat for about 3 days??

The one "click" that I have seems to be coming from the soleniod that is on the top of the back of the engine(not the one that is part of the starter). I replaced the one on the back of the engine with a lawn mower soleniod from a parts house that looked the same. After replacing, the engine turned over very slow, like a weak battery, and is now just giving me that one "click" sound again once I was sure the battery was topped off??

                    Well yes both of you.

I would bet your starter/solenoid is fried. If it sat in water for three there is no question in my mind that it needs to be replaced. We had probably about the same amount of water as you did and after it sat over the winter the starter was toast.

Mine did this several times this spring.

I took the cables off the battery, wire brushed the connections good, put a layer of di-electric grease on the battery posts and connections and reassembled. Not a problem since.
