I am a new Tige owner though I have owned several boats prior. The battery compartment cover says to disconect the batteries before charging or I may experience problems with electrical components. This is a first for me. Do I have to physically disconnect the battery leads for any charging or are they saying throw the under dash power switches? Disconnecting just to keep a maintenance charge (I use a solar charger) would be an incredible pain.

Disconnect battery cables prior to charging??

I had an onboard charger on my boat, and I never disconnected my 7 batteries, just plugged in the charger and let it charge. I think it's just a CYA from Tige so that way if something were to happen you can't sue them.....Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

It's more of a CYA thing. Some large/heavy-duty shop type charger can put out high voltage levels which can damage electrical components. I doubt a small solar maintenance charger will be a problem.
What yr/model Tige do you have? Does it have dual batteries with a switch or Tige's EIDB system with Isolator? Is your charger a single bank or dual bank?
Ok, I looked and noticed you have an 09, so it should be the Tige EIDB if it has t batteries. If your charger is not a 2-bank charger, you will need to attach the chargers POS (+) to the center post of the Iso so you can charge both banks.Last edited by chpthril; 10-26-2009, 05:59 PM.Mikes Liquid Audio: Knowledge Experience Customer Service you can trust-KICKER WetSounds ACME props FlyHigh Custom Ballast Clarion LiquidLumens LEDs Roswell Wave Deflector And More

I had a problem where I fried my ECM due to charging that batteries.
What happened were the batteries where completely dead, so I charged them with the main switch in the on position. While the charge was running at full load (50amps) I tried to start the boat. This caused the ECM to wig out. Marine Power reflashed my ECM and all is well. They told me NEVER start the boat while charging, and avoid at all cost not to have to Jump Start the boat as this too could cause the ECM to lose its programming.Tige, it's a way of life!

Ok, here is why Tige states to disconnect the batteris before charging. I picked up a dead marine deep-cycle out of a customer's 20V to bring home and recharge (cover leaks, boat fills with rain water, bilge runs alot, battery goeas dead)
So, I set it on my charger, it's a Schumacher 6/12 Volt charger/booster, pretty much what I call a "shop charger" as it's more then the avg DIY'r would need. I set it first on 12V/50A charge got the camera ready and then turned it on and snapped a shot. Next, set it down on 12V/10A charge and again, turned it on a snapped a shot.
You will see what the voltage pegged at on the 50A setting, which is not all that high (50A's that is). Keep in mind that the older engines have a 60A alt and the newer ones have a 90A alt. The difference is the regulator in the alt keeps the voltage typicaly below 15V. The charger, which anyone can stroll into any auto parts store and buy, is not so regulated. This kind of voltage level can do damage to electrical componants! So, know your charger, if unsure, disconnect.
