    Clarion Head Unit

    Hello,

I currently have an XMD1 Clarion Marine Radio in my Tige, does anyone know of what model Clarion to upgrade to that has the iPod AUX hookup but will still allow me to keep my current controller from the XMD1?

    Thanks

When you say controller, do you mean remote(s)? If the remote uses Clarion's Cnet cable/plug, look for a CMD4A or CMD5, I believe they will still work with the older remotes as long as they are Cnet.

That's correct. I went from a CMD1 to a CMD4a and my old remotes work fine. They will not control the ipod and obviously there is no digital readout, other than that they work and you can upgrade as you can afford new remotes. Watch Ebay, there have been a few with the LCD that will work lately and they've went for around $75.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

        Thanks

Yes, I have a "wired" remote that sits behind the steering wheel that allows me to control the volume, CD tracks etc. The wire looks like a black circle PIN OUT behind the radio.

So the CMD5 head unit will still work with this remote? Then if I upgrade the remote down the road I can control the iPod tracks as well?

        Thanks again!!

I had the opposite results when I switched from the XMD1 to CMD5. I have the M202RC oval remotes and they control the volume, track changes, cycling between inputs, displays MP3 track information and iPod track details (CCA-IPOD cable). WARNINGThe CMD5 is actually narrower then the XMD1 so you will see the old screw holes, no big deal for me but something to consider.

            Thanks for the reply

If there is anyone out there that has upgraded from the XMD1 to the CMD5 and the oval remotes (on the dash board directly behind steering wheel) still worked please let me know.

            THanks

Ding ding, means, "Yes, I have upgraded from an XMD1 to a CMD5 and my oval remotes work great." Enjoy the MP3 CD, iPod and Sirius features, I know I am.

                        Question

Hey EvilOne, can you just plug your iPod headphone cord into an Aux port on the CMD5? Or do you have to purchase the accessory to control the iPod?

You do not need an IPod controller such as the CCAIpod, just the RCA/3.5mm headphone cable. It just plugs into the red RCA leads on the back of the H/U. The CCAIpod will give you better sound quality, charge the Ipod, and give pretty much full control as if you were listening through the headphones. You can even get an extension cable to reach around the bow to the driver's seat.

I did some research on clarions website and every clarion remote is compatible with every clarion marine H/U. I just upgraded my xmd1 to a M475

And this unit has the black circle PIN connector for the wired remote I currently have from the XMD1?
