If I can share this without it sounding like an advertisement.

www.soundgate.com (This is a sister company) Go look up the CORE plug-and-play for iPod, (PDCBLPAK is the part number). http://www.soundgate.com/index.php?r...usereferrer=1&

You can wire this device into your boat and use the CORE to provide the fixed line-level analog output from your iPod. It does not use the headphone output. It also provides charging. An interesting feature that might make sense for boat use is that you can wire it in such a manner that your iPod will go into PAUSE mode if you turn the boat off between riders.

It also works with iPhone as well and will charge the 3G iPhones.
    It's not an optical illusion.
    It just looks like one.....

Yes, but their marine products actually have a special direct cable that plugs into the interface on the iPod and into the CD Changer port on the H/U. This set-up rocks. Not only can you change playlists and tracks, but it then uses the same DA used by the CD player for the iPod. It also supports shuffle mode. It supports as many playlists as you have. The integration is second only to the iPod interface on my VW, where I can control the iPod from the steering wheel controls, albeit only 5 playlists, with the 6th being whatever was selected on the iPod.

The main thing will be to NOT use the headphone jack. The headphone jack is bad to connect from because the sound is colored to sound good from your headphones. And also any EQ setting you have and such on your ipod. If you connect via the LINE OUT, it will bypass the EQ and stuff, and just send out pure line level analog audio. So basically, this little adapter, is a way to get a dock adapter type line out connection, but yet still use auxilliary jack.
Thanks rag. I may just purchase that. I am curious if it will make a big difference in the sound quality.

OK, I haven't had a chance to digest all of this info yet but, I was playing with my wife's Mac and Ipod and stumbled onto something.

We just downloaded the new iTunes 8.1 and they have a special right now were you can upgrade any song you have purchased to their highest quality 256kbps ACC encoding for .30 a song (provided the song is in their high quality library of songs).

It also states (as someone mentioned here already) that "Music on the Store available in iTunes will no longer be available as 128 kbps and with DRM" - whatever that means!!

DRM was the copyright stuff they had on the files that kept you from using it outside of itunes.

Im sure ragboy will log on tomorrow and prove me wrong. So be ready for a long winded tech filled post from him, that explains how im wrong and why he is right.

                no, that's right.

That isn't a special so much, it has been available for a while, and should be available for some time to come.. NO DRM is a good thing. 256k is a good thing.

When you buy a song from iTunes, if it has the little + (plus) sign next to it, then it "has no more copyright stuff" on it, and is the better quality. Most of itunes is like this now, and all of it will be like this soon.

The itunes plus is nice, I can certainly tell on my playlist when a song has plus and when it doesn't. Sounds louder. I haven't noticed the price increase though, maybe its not on the albums I have bought.

There is no price increase, same price. There was a increase in the beginning. There is only an UPGRADE fee of .30 per song if you want to take an older track you already own in 128k DRM and upgrade to new PLUS.

This is (not what you said ragboy, but Apple's policy on this). I've spent $1000s on iTunes, I think they should upgrade my songs for free.

Mostly Apple's been pretty on target with their products, but sometimes they blunder in a big way. This is one of those times.
