I would like to ask the stereo guru's what they think about this item for a boat? It will work great w/ my head unit (Alpine CDA-9886) and a friend of mine has all the other equipment needed to set it up.

Is it worth the price to do in a boat? That is my question, to tell you the truth I really don't know what to expect.

Never used anything like that, kinda interesting tho. It says"Tunes your Alpine receiver to your vehicle's acoustics". Not sure if it would have the same effect in a boat as in a vehicle but I guess it would. Cars have an closed environment of metal, carpet, insulation, etc, boats are fiberglass, vinyl, and lots of open space.

One benefit I see is that it is a line driver, although only 4v's.

The "Line Voltage" is the amount of voltage the head unit puts out on the RCA's. The higher the voltage (the closer it is to what the amp is designed to accept) the better the quality of sound will be. especially at higher volume levels. Most marine head units I've looked at (and most auto/non-marine) are about 2 volts. So, any time you add in a device that boosts the line voltage between the H/U and the amps, the better the over all out put will be. 4 Volts is not a lot in comparison with other devices, but it's probably x2 what the H/U puts out.

I dont see it having any ill effects, as it sounds like it's just an EQ that you use a laptop to setup instead of dials. Without knowing exactly what it does, I cant really say, it's only speculation. It may make adjustments to the output that are inaudible to the avg person when used in the boat environment.

Not trying to talk you out of it as I dont have any real knowledge of the product, just a first impression of it by reading the brief sales description. I'd like to see if I can find more info on it.

Well finally finished my install done and it sounds pretty good. Here is the original thread that I started.

Here is a pic of the 3 amps added and I also used an Alpine audio imprint processer, I need to run through the setup again because it was very noisy when we did it. We were in a hurry because I wanted to use the boat the next day. I can't wait to get Chptril out on the boat so he can give a review. Several people where interested to know if the processer is worth using. Once we ran the sound setup there was no fine tuning. I don't think it sounds bad but the guy who did it does. When you sit in the seats all the seats sound the same. When you stand up you can hear the change until you are standing and the tower speakers blend in. It was a pretty neat deal if I must say so.

I miss judged the shelf and top of the battery box by about 1/2" so I need to adjust that so the battery lid will fit tight.
