Running Tower Speaker Wires Through the Boat

Does anyone have any ideas or tips on running tower speaker wires through the boat?

I have a Monster Tower and I need to drill a hole through the gunwale before going into the tower tubing.

I have 1/2" plywood under my tower mounts so I will be going through almost an inch of wood and fiberglass.

I have looked at strain relief electrical connectors (not enough threads), rubber strain reliefs (like what you would find on the beginning of electric power cords where the connect to the device) and just drilling a hole and letting the cables go into the hole without anything (maybe a little caulk).

I plan on using some shrink wrap and expandable braided wire covering on the wire but think it would look better to have something in the hole just to dress it out a little, I just don't know what...

If any one has pictures that would be great!!

    Thanks!

I had to do the same thing on my Monster Tower. I ended up drilling a hole in the top deck about an inch or two behind where the tower mounted to the boat on the rear tower leg. You'll need to drill 2 holes in your tower leg and then run the wires on the outside where the tower leg connects to the tower cross bars. I used grommets that I got at Home Depot to dress up the holes. They're also functional for the tower holes because they prevent the wire from chaffing where it goes into the tower. When you're drilling into your fiberglass, put some masking tape over where you plan to drill and then run the drill in reverse until you get past the gel coat. That way you don't get chips in your gel coat.

Use a string and a shop vac to run the wires through your tower so that you suck the string through the shop vac end after feeding the string from the other end. Works like a champ for fishing wires through your tower.

I'll try and locate some pics of mine.

Thanks dogbert! - I am OK going through the tower but I am not sure what to do going through the boat.

What did you use in your hole through the gunwale - behind the tower mount?

My hole will be nearly an inch thick because I added treated plywood under the mount.

      Thanks!
