    Clarion Head Unit Internal Amp

I have been working on my winter project - a new stereo system upgrade and I have a question.

I am installing a Clarion M475 head unit. The owners manual states that there is a setting that can turn the internal amp off or on.

It doesn't give any more detail, just that you can turn it off or on and the default setting is off.

What is this for? Why is the default setting off?

I am running external amps so I guess I would want it off anyway, correct?

    Thanks

    Amplifier cancel setting
Set the internal amplifier on or off.
    * The factory default setting is “OFF”.
    1. Press and hold the [D] button for 1 second or
longer to switch to the adjustment selection
    display.
    2. Press the [R] or [F] to select “ACANCEL”.
    3. Press the [E] or [e] button to select “ON” or
    “OFF”.
    ●ON:
    Amplifier is turned-off.
    ●OFF:
    Amplifier is turned-on.
    4. Press the [D] button to return to the previous
    mode.

You answered both questions at the same time. If you're running external amps you do not want the internal amp on.

X2, if you are running the speakers on an amp, no need to worry about it. Cant say I've messed with this setting as all the head units I've installed had amps driving the speakers

I will say, if you running 2 amps (one off the 'Front' RCA's and one off the 'Rear' RCA's) double check the settings for the rears, it can be set for "Sub" or "Full Range" I believe.

The pasted portion in the first reply is exactly the same thing that is in my manual. It just doesn't give any reason for when to turn the internal amp on or off.

I find it odd that the default is with the internal amp off. I guess they assume you will be running an external amp to it.

I bet most people wouldn't read the manual so if they weren't running an amp they would not get the full benefit from the head unit because they would not change this setting??

I hooked up the unit without the amp first and thought it sounded pretty good. I wonder how much better it would have been if I change this setting?? Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter because I am running three external amps off it anyway.
