    rear speakers not working

    My rear speakers just stopped working, and I'm not sure why. It's not the controls in the stereo, and I don't know where any of the fuses are at to try and check them. I think it may be my amp, but I don't know how to check it. I haven't been able to find any loose wires or anything.

    I may need to get a new amp from Santa, does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks

    We have some great stereo guys that I'm sure will be able to help you with this. They are going to need more info.

    What kind on Amp?
    Do you have power to the amp?
    Are the back speakers the only ones hooked up to the amp?

      Well, give us some more info: how many speakers do you have in the cabin total- 4 or 6? Can you give us the what model amp you have? I'm guessing you've played with the FT/RR Fade on the head unit. Can you tell if you have 1 or 2 sets of RAC signal cables plugged into the amp i.e. 4 plugs with 2 lefts, 2 rights?

      Many amps a at least a "power on" and a "protect mode" light, some will have one light to serve both functions - On and green means good, red means bad, not lite means blown fuse/no power or no remote turn on signal from head unit.

            What head unit do you have. Some of the clarions you need to reset to send output out of the rear cables. Like the xmd3

              It should be a Clarion with a Clarion amp powering the rear speakers and the head unit powering the fronts. If there is a sub he will have a four channel amp with the sub on two channels and the four rear speakers on the other two channels.

                * RCA's unplugged
                * Amp fuse blown
                * Primary power fuse blown
                * blown amp
                * Blown turn-on lead at the radio
                * Head Unit needs a wake-up, (per xpjim's point above)

                Probably the first step will be to find a voltage meter, and RIGHT AT THE AMPS POWER CONNECTORS see if you can measure 12 volts. If you can, then move the red test lead to the TURN ON connection, (usually blue wire from the radio) and with the radio on, see if there is 12 volts present there.

                If both of those show and measure 12 volts, the amp should turn on. Is there any power light or other indicator on the amp that would allow you to visually check to see if the amp was on or off? See what is happening there. IF the light or indicator is on, it probably means the amp is on.

                At that point, it might be RCA cables disconnected, or (despite you saying no) the fader could be all the way forward.

                I don't want to write a book, and others will chime in with their thoughts, so test this stuff, and come back with your findings. We will get you running, hopefully!

                  Oh, you want recommendations?

                  Well, in this tough economic situation the whole nation is facing, the best thing we as individuals can do is to SPEND in order to stir and stimulate the economy. you say you might need an amp to replace the potentially bad one? Why stop there? You single???? If so, consider replacing the entire system, radio, amps speakers and all!!!!

                  We can recommend the right parts to get the job done, and we can also make some solid recommendations with regards to other things you can buy to further enhance your listening pleasure...

                  Don't stop at the amp man, go for the gusto!!!
