I have a 12W3 sub in a sealed enclosure (Check HERE for pics) powered by the sub portion of an Arc Audio 900.6. I want to get a little more thump to keep up with the rest of the system. In that previous thread Tim said the box looks to be a decent size so I may be able to just drop something else in its place. I'm not opposed to removing the box in favor of something ported, I just can't go too much bigger because I love all of my storage.

Here's Tim's take in a PM to me, I don't think he'd mind:
Originally posted by wetsounds1As the XS12 would be the easier fit but I only have dual 4 ohm of those right now. So you can run it at 2 ohm and use either chs 5 or chs 6 of the 900.6 as that amp cannot bridge the chs 5 and 6 together. So you will be getting about 300 watts to it. It can take 500 rms. So not gobs of power to it but I have heard this exact set up and it works great and most are very happy with it. I am just not sure what impedance you have now. If you have a 4 ohm woofer bridged. You are getting 500 to 600 watts. So if you did a XXX it is dual 2 ohm. So you can wire it as a 4 ohm woofer and get almost 600 to it. It can take 1000 but 600 is still good power to it. And you can always add a true sub amp later."a what? i can['t] say/spell/pronounce that word..." - wannabewakeboarder

From the picture I have it looks like it says 12W3-D2 Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer which according to http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/12W3v2_MAN.pdf is a dual coil 2ohm subwoofer running at 4ohms."a what? i can['t] say/spell/pronounce that word..." - wannabewakeboarder

so how do you have it on the 900.6. If it is at 4 ohms and you have the chs 5 and 6 bridged it would be around 550 watts.
The JL says 300 rms. So it would be way more power than needed.
You could replace that woofer with a dual 4 ohm(xs12), run it in 2 ohm mode off just ch 5. Then add another woofer dual 4 ohm(xs12), run it in 2 ohm mode off ch 6.
Or build a new box ported for a big woofer(XS-XXX), dual 2 ohm, run it bridged off chs 5/6.
But that box looks too small for a XXX. Plus the XXX likes ported boxes. Will work in both but really likes ported!

It's Channels 5&6 bridged for the 550 watts.
I'm good with those options, I'm trying to see what my best option is with my current amp and start building from there this winter."a what? i can['t] say/spell/pronounce that word..." - wannabewakeboarder
