My 05 22V still has the factory Clarion head unit, speakers and a pair of Clarion amps to power the sub/interior and tower speakers. System sounded OK but I wanted more volume out of the tower speakers. I adjusted the gain on the smaller APX 280M amp that drives the tower speakers - much improved volume out of the Samson tower speakers.
I also checked the crossover switch settings of the larger APX480M Clarion amp (for interior speakers & sub) and found they were incorrect for the setup according to the owners manual. I switched to the correct settings - sound did improved.
However, the switches are very touchy - simply placing a finger on them now makes the speakers pop and hiss. They're so sensitive that the amp will often drop out while the boat is operating. Reaching under the amp and wiggling various switches will bring it back for a while. Seems since I've move the switches from a position they've been set for a while (since delivery?) they're not seating well due to corrosion or similar.
Any ideas how to remedy? Should I pull the amp and clean the switches with contact clearner or are these Clarion amps suspect in general??
