Wetsounds XS-10FA

I am thinking about upgrading to the Wetsounds XS-10FA. For those that don't know, that is their free air 10. I would like to mount it under the steering wheel in the footwell wall, facing the driver. Have any of you guys heard or use this application? I would prefer not to build a box and looking for ease of installation. I heard that this setup with a proper bass amp will hit pretty hard. Not looking to win competitions, just add some thump to the music.

I normally store a bunch of lifejackets in that storage area, if I install this 10 will I have to keep that storage area open or will I still be able to put stuff in there? We mostly listen to rock music and just want more hit with our tunes, I have a cheapo 10 in a box in that compartment and it does not hit very hard, partly because I am short on power at the moment but mostly because the 10 is buried in that compartment. i am inheriting a MTX bass amp that I will get the details on today, that will power the 10.

Don't know much about stereos so any assistance is appreciated. I will probably call the wetsounds guys as well, I know they have a lot of good knowledge.

I've installed about .5 dozen, just need to have a solid 400+ watts RMS @ 2ohm's running to it. This is the factory location so the bulkhead wall may be perforated for a 10" sub already, I know the 06 and up are.

No need for a box, no need to keep the door open, no need to worry about storing life jackets in there.

I've got a Kenwood 10" Free Air sub in my driver's footwell. It hits pretty hard...on some songs I really feel it. I'm sure the Wetsounds XS-10FA will hit even harder. I've only got 200W going into mine.

On my boat, that location is dry storage and there's a locker door that's sealed. I've noticed that if I just unlock the door so it opens just a hair, the sub hits much harder. I also have all my amps in this locker and use it to store my toolbox, air pumps and miscellaneous hardware I carry with me.

While it doesn't make the water ripple with vibration, I think it sounds great and so do my kids (they are very critical).

Good info, thanks guys. Checking on my amp options right now, my brother has an MTX amp he is going to give me, just need to see if it will work for this application.

I have that wetsounds speaker in the location you are talking about. It does add more base to it, but definitely doesn't rock the boat. I think it just makes it sound really complete. We dont have anything in the locker besides the speaker right now, because we have enough storage room in other places. This isn't the best picture, but you can kinda see the speaker.

How can you find the factory location whithout pulling off all the Carpet?

You just have to feel around the carpet with your fingers till you find the slots under the carpet. They are about 3/8" wide x 3" long. Once you find a slot, take a razor knife and start going slot to slot cutting out the carpet in a circle. Then take a jig-saw and cut the wall out connecting the slots.

How can you find the factory location whithout pulling off all the Carpet?

Here's what it looks like behind the carpet. On this one, I installed a 12" sub and box so I removed the carpet to seal the box to the wall.

Nice, you just answered my next questions before I asked it! I am going to check tonight, but I wonder if they did that cut out in in the '04 22V's?
