    Speakers Cut Out

I just bought an 2007 22ve and I have loved it all summer long, including this site for all my questions. This past weekend the left side cabin speakers (bow speakers unaffected) went out for about a day, and then came back on right before we trailered, and then back out again once we pulled up the ramp and parked.

My first thought was that there was something in the amp, so I took the leads and switched them and ruled out the speakers cause the left side functioned fine when hooked up to right cabin speaker outputs. Any ideas on what could be happening in the amp? Could it be something else? Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.

    Equipment:
    Kicker ZX700.5 (sub and cabin)
    Kicker zx350.4 (tower speakers)

The first thing I would say to check would be the connection at the back of the speaker. We have an '07 22Ve as well and this year our 4 main cabin speakers were all not playing but the bow pair were fine. We checked the connections and all 4 had been knocked lose by the gear that we had stored in each compartment. That's a simple solution but one that you might have overlooked. Maybe yours has a loose connection that is working intermittently..
If you ain't falling.. you ain't trying hard enough..

I'd also check the amps' connections.

I checked the connections on the backs, and I also swapped the right side connections with the left on the amp, the non working left side cabin worked fine and then the right side cabin was not working. That's why I wonder if it is in the amp.

Your trouble-shooting procedure is good, and points to a problem upstream from the speakers, and the speaker wire. At this point though, we still do not know if it is the amp, the radio, or the wiring between them.

Go to the RCA cable connection at the amplifier, and swap left for right, and see if the problem moves. If it does, it is the RCA's or the radio. If the problem doesn't move, it is in the amp. Note: only switch the RCA's at the amp end; that allows us to "look at" the RCA cables and the radio.
          It's not an optical illusion.
          It just looks like one.....

I just swapped the RCA's as you said and the problem still exists. I don't think it is the speaker wire because when I take the leads for the left side cabin speakers and move to the operating right side cabin speaker channel they work fine. I just thought it was strange that it cut out, came on for short while, and then back out again.

So the cut-in, cut-out is on the amp's left side, and switching RCA's left to right did not make it move.

Just to be double-sure; you moved the RCA's only at the amp, right, and NOT at the radio, correct?

I just want to make sure, because if you switch at both the amp end AND the radio end, you do NOT remove the possibility it is the radio....

It is confusing to try to grasp, so I just want to make sure.... Only one end of the RCA cables swapped, right? Just confirming....

That's right, when I swapped the RCA's at the amp, the issue still remained. I didn't touch the RCA's off of the radio. When I switch the wires off of the amp the issue then switches to opposite side of the cabin.

You probably have a temperamental amp then...
                  It happens...

There are a few different ways to handle this. You might check with your dealer, since it is covered under the Tige' warranty. Or you can remove it yourself, and then note the serial number, photocopy your original sales receipt, and call KICKER customer service for an RMA number for repair and/or replacement under warranty. Include your sales receipt copy, and ship it to KICKER. Turnaround time for warranty shipments is real quick.

One note: If you pull the amp and intend to use the boat, make sure that you de-energize the positive power cable to the amp location, so it does not short and cause a fire in the event of shorting while the amplifier is out of the boat.

Thanks for the help, I think I will start with the dealer since I only have a month before I have to winterize. They can maybe resolve the issue at the same time.

                        Thanks Again!
