marine head units w/ iPod and Sirius?

I am looking for suggestions for a marine head unit having both iPod and Sirius integration.

Of course there is the Clarion CMD5 with the CCA-iPod cable. But I have read iPod control is hideous. I guess I could add a HK Drive+Play but I would rather have an integrated solution.

Anyone have experience with the marine Alpine iDA-X100M? Looks to be great iPod and Sirius integration (with full color display). Plus you can get a marine (floating) remote control for it.

Other components of the system will probably be WS Double Up (MB-8 and Pro60), SYN amps, and a WS XS sub.

    Any other suggestions?

Sony has one called a CDX-M50ip I think. The iPod cable and control are built in on the radio. No iPod adaptor box to add. The sirius radio is an add on, but it is easy....

Lots of remote options in SOny world, wired, waterproof, submersible, and there are remotes available for Sony radios that will clip onto a tow rope handle...

can this please be moved to the PW thread so I can follow it?

      j/k

I have the CDM5 and am thinking of changing even before the install. I will look into the Sony as it sounds like there are a lot of cool options!

The new Clarion EA1276B Ipod interface for the CMD5 and M475 is worlds better then the old version, but the 1276B Interface and the CCA-Ipod cable are not the same thing. These 2 headunits will take up to 3 wired remotes.

What H/U do you have now?

The Double up is a great choice and either the xs10 or 12, depending on whether or not you mind loosing space to a sub box.

What about your cabin set up?

The ws420 EQ is a nice way to top off a great system

I have the clarion M475, with the ipod control, and 2 wired remotes. The ipod control works great. The only thing is you can't change playlists from the wired remotes, must do from deck, but we rarely change them. The remote allows mute, pause, skip forward and back, and volume control. We have remotes at the driver an transom. The only time I have seen the remote not work right, or the ipod not work right is before I got my beefed up alternator. When the alternator can't quite keep up with the big stereo and volts start to drop lots of things go screwy. Wired remotes get stuck, ipod may stop working. Since we have gotten the bigger alternator, we have no problems like this, except when I have my tower and nav lights on, and stereo cranked, while I am idling. As long as I am doing 1500 rpm or more, I can go all day will all of that on, and my tower lights are huge.

Kenwood makes a really nice unit:

Kenwood KTS-300MR. The iPod adapter is really good. You can scroll through playlists, artists, genres, albums, etc. You can select random from the H/U as well as the iPod's equalizer settings. I have an older version of this and I'm probably going to upgrade during the offseason so I can add a wired remote.

you are right about the iPod control being hideous. I tried useing it for a while but decide that the aux input was way easier and faster. i recommend just doing an aux imput. Alpine is also has a couple sick headunits. Their ipod interface is full speed so there is no lag time at all. they are nice if you are willing to drop some both require an external box for either xm or sirius

                    Hey, no prob at all...

So you know, I am real good friends with Jason K who heads up Alpine's mobile division. I have done work with him in a previous life. Phoned him yesterday as a matter of fact...

Knowing his history, and passion, I bet those are really nice.

One of the issues we face is that the factory installed Clarion units are BIG. Once they are pulled out for a replacement, it seems like there would be a lot of extra open space in the glove box to fill. Does anyone know of a kit available to take up that space.

It is still a normal opening, right? roughly 2" x 7" ???? I am almost certain that the face is big, but the rest of the radio is normal din size....

IMO there isn't much that can top an alpine's beauty and performance for the same price. I'm sure there is higher end stuff out there, but not without a high end price tag.
