    Best MP3 player ?IPod

After toasting my Ipod while at Lake Powell...it just stopped working and gave me that frowny face, I am questioning whether Ipod is the most reliable MP3 player.

Team Allen's son repairs them, BTW, and let me know that I somehow smoked the mother board, so it is basically useless. I don't know if it got too hot or what, but sitting in the cupholder with the bimini up, it does get some direct sunlight. This current one lasted about 16 months, so am I wrong to think I should expect better? My other one has already had a battery replaced.

This time I want to consider some of the other players out there, and thought that I would get some feedback. I would like one that plays videos like the Ipod, so that I can show newbies video footage of how to get out of the water on a wakeboard. The boat is the place it gets used 90% of the time.
    Be excellent to one another.

Your problem will be that any other player won't play your iTunes purchased music.

I have had every ipod since gen 1. A few of some models. Except for dropping in water, or something like that, have never had a problem. And apple is amazing when it comes to fixing issues. My wife called because her iphone battery life is not what it should be, for instance, replaced.

My wifi was acting up on my iphone, they sent me a loaner for a few bucks, and replaced mine. They have always been amazing.

On a side note and after the fact. I buy all of my music using Amazon.com now. It is DMR free and will up load the music to your player of choice after each download. I use I-Tunes and have a bunch of ACC protected music. So I am stuck in the Apple camp until they remove more of the DMR from the I-Tunes which is the Plus stuff. Of course they charge you more to do that!

I am on my 2nd I-pod in 5 years. This one (knock on wood) has lasted me for 2 1/2 years. I keep my I-Pod in my glove box but I know different models have the radio in different locations. Plus I use a Alpine deck which interfaces and charges with the I-Pod very nicely.

One of the problems could be the environment it's in. In other words, the rough ride of the boat. These things do not like jarring at all!!!!!!!
Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. Obama or the Univ. of Saxet.

I am with Ragboy, my wife also has had and Ipod since Gen 1, after paying for the first one we have not had to pay for a new one. Service it great. She is on her 4 or 5th. The early ones really had issues, so apple would just replace for the newest and greatest. We went from a 10 gig to now a 30 gig.
They may still have a few issues but what you pay in a little extra cash up front pays in the long run in service. Plus that dam things are awsome.
            Just my 2

            Good luck
Now just go buy another IPOD and be Happy

I have been very, very happy with my iPod Touch. Haven't put any video's related to wakeboarding on it but I am sure it can be done.

I keep mine in the glove box out from direct sun light. Once I get the last remote from the stereo installers installed, the glove box will be closed during the day. At this time, we have to keep the glove box open so we can access the HU from the wireless remote that came with it or the HU itself.

              Great investment..

I keep my iPod in the mesh map pocket next to the driver's seat, which is pretty well protected from everything. I would suggest getting one of those DLO rubber skins for any iPod to protect it from getting bounced around too much.

If you get a flash based I-pod which I think 90% of the are now you don't need to worry about the jarring of the boat. I have an older 80 Gig with a HD and I worry that it is going to fail at some point. I keep my wife's nano on hand as a back up which is 1 or 2 gig flash. I remember hearing Leo Laport talk about Apple buys about 80% of flash memory on the market for their products.

What are you guys talking about customer support? I found the website and never have even heard of a phone number. Is there someone I can call and whine to about my current situation? I assume that 18 months is going to be out of warranty, but it is worth a try.

I have only a few songs that are Itunes purchased, so that is not too big of a deal.

It looks like I will be going to costco again...or is there a cheaper place to buy?

I got one of those rubber skins and that is a must for the boat, I can just set it up there and it will not slide all over the place.

The best place for Apple customer support is an Apple store. They have been pretty good at our nearby store.

The best thing for the boat, is to use an ipod that doesn't have a disk in it. Also, the GLASS screen on the ipod touch would worry me a bit. The NANO or older minis of either gen are the best. They use flash mem and simple LCD. Those can take any amount of jarring and never care.

Go to the apple site, support for iphone, and you should be able to enter your ipod serial number, and it will tell you what you have available, start there. Prob nothing you can do after 18 months. However, one time I got a iPod off of ebay, I dropped it in Pool after I got it. I dried it out, but dead. Went to site, put in serial, they sent me box to ship it back in, and then sent me a new one. Of course, I just said it stopped working.

Reason why I have it padded when in the glove box. I also put a clear plastic film over the top for scratches.

                              Sorry about your iPod Tall.

I'm not sure on the Costco pricing for a new unit? The solid state drives have no moving parts so I think would be ideal. I don't know if they make one that will do video, which I know you use. Maybe someone else knows? My son is gone right now or I would ask him.

A great source is Apple Certified Refurbished.
