    Suggestions to replace Clarion

I just bought an 05 22V. The stereo doesn't work. There is power goning to the reciever, but it won't turn on. I guess I need to replace it. The reciever came with the boat new, I think it is a CMD3 maybe? What should i replace it with? I have read a few things that say to stay away from the CMD's, but I dont' know. Any suggestions would be awsome.

Are you turning on your accessory switch? Most boats come wired such that the stereo gets its power from the accessory switch. In addition, it's wired to the ignition switch so that it turns off as you start the boat. There's a couple of fuses coming from the ignition switch that you may want to check as well.

That receiver needs a constant 12v (power and memory) and a switched 12V turn-on. Also needs a ground.

Look for a yellow and a red on the back of the head unit for battery 12V.

CMD5 is what I would replace it with if you need. Should be a direct fit in the existing hole.

I know there is power going directly to the back of the reciever, but I'm not sure about the ground. What do you mean about having a 12V switch? There is a switch by the batteries where you can choose which one to use. Is that what you mean? If i turn the ignition key to the left, which i think is the accessory power, the reciever will not power up. I appreciate the help.

chpthril, I know on my system (when premium sound from Tige meant a JVC setup), it had an inline fuse for the head unit. Do you know if the newer systems also had that or was it wired right to the circuit breaker?

From 06 and up, the head unit is wired through the ignition switch so it only turns on when the key is in the "Run" or "Acc" position. This is the small red "switched" power wire. On the older ones like Dog mentioned, this got power through an "Acc" rocker on the dash. The headunit has a larger (about 12ga) yellow wire that it the power/memory wire that is a constant 12V.

So, you should have 1 ground, 1 constant 12V, and one 12v that will be run through a switch.

The ones that Ive gone in and upgraded, I do not think have had the fuse holders supplied in the Clarion headunit harness. Tige uses there own breakers and fuses already in the boat's harness.

Does the ignition switch have Acc/Off/On/Start on the '05? Never seen a boat ignition that way. Usually aren't they just Off/On/Start? You might just be turning your ignition switch in the hole trying to turn it left.
