Sticking with a Clarion Head Unit??

    Needing an upgrade!
Currently my 02' Tige 21v has the original Clarion head unit and with the upcoming season arriving, Im needing something a little more modern! Sirius sat., Ipod & Mp3 controls,etc..
I found a new Clarion CMD4A on ebay and seems to be a simple swap over, price isn't bad... My question is should I stick with Clarion CMD4A or should I look for something better? CMD5?
Future upgrades include a set of new tower speakers from WetSounds, possible sub and Amp.

    Thanks!

The biggest diff is the CMD5 is Bluetooth ready

    Both have:
    3 RCA outputs
    1 AUX input
Cnet for TV, CD changer, sat.
    Sirius ready
    Accept multiple remotes
    18fm/6am pre-sets
    Ipod control through the CCA-Ipod

I'd go with the CMD4 if they offer any warranty.

If you have the old remotes without the lcd screen they will still control the new unit. If you're on a budget you can get by with the old remotes, you just lose some bling and a little bit of functionality--no ipod controls. I went from a CMD1 to a CMD4 and kept my old remotes. If I find extra money I'll change the remotes otherwise they work fine for my purposes.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Great! I think I'll go with the cmd4 . I dont think I will need the bluetooth out on the water.
It would drive me crazy if I picked up the cmd4, then find out I should have bought "this instead".
I'll look into the remotes as well, Ive seen them on ebay for a few more bones!

I've been wanting to upgrade the head unit, but I didn't want to mess with the remotes...01 v2300 w/ stock clarion

If I upgrade to something like this:

          http://www.rocktheboataudio.com/html/38073.html

Will the old remotes (non-lcd) still work?

You may want to call Clarion (good luck, they suck in this department) because none of the remotes thay list now are compatible with that M275 H/U

May have to step up to the M475

compare the two on crutchfield. Looks like the cmd4 does not play mp3/WMA files, the cmd5 does. Its nice to have 200+ songs on one cd, but if you use an ipod i guess that really doesn't matter.

I can't say for sure, that's a different style than I had. I would say if the plugs for the remote on the back are the same then most likely you could use it-- I would assume they'd stay with the same wiring scheme. If the plugs on the back are different I would not think so.

Again, this is conjecture and rational thought, not first hand knowledge of that particular radio. If you can't get ahold of Clarion call a local car audio shop who carries the line and ask them thier opinion--they should have a god idea.
