HELP - Kicker Amp with Wetsounds Pro 80s & 60s

where are you getting that the amp is 4 X 45 at 4 ohms, every where i have looked it is 4 X 70.

It shows the specs on line to be 85W x 4 @ 2ohm. This will net around 45W x 4 @ 4ohm, which most speakers are.

At the end of the day, the 2 speakers wired parallel @ 2ohms, will split between them, what ever watts RMS the amp puts out, so the speaker ends up receiving the same power. The other problem is, in order to get enough power out of the amp, you would have to run it parallel/bridged. The Amp would then, I believe, see a 1ohm load. This kind of config and load will cause the amp to run extremely hot, have hi current draw, clip the signal, and may even fail over time.

Thanks, A lot of reading and asking questions. No problem that I know of using non-marine amps, see my post a little earlier.

For the 3-some, you will need a 4 chnl amp with about 250w RMS x 4 @ 4ohms. What are the specs on the PDX4150?

I think 1 4chnl will draw less current then 2 2chnl amps.

wetsounds recommended this amp to me but i was wondering if they were talking about one or two of these. it seems to me they were talking about one but from the specs i was thinkg two and run them briged and parrallel ... right or im i totoaly confused?

The 485 is a single 4ohm unit, so you would run it bridged on chnl 3/4 and it should see about 300W RMS, and the 80's on chnls 1 and 2 would see 150w RMS. I think it will do fine.

ok thaks so much man. i will get it all set up just wanted to make sure i wasnt underppowering them. i want it to blow people ears. then when i put a couple of ported l7 15's in there it should do the trick.. lol

I have a problem. I ordered my boat with a set of wetsounds pro 80 and a set of wetsounds pro 60. The sub is a 10" kicker vr. The dealer is recommending a 5 channel amp, the kicker 700.5, to power both sets of speakers and the sub.

The amp is rated:
4 ohms: 4 X 70 Watts RMS + 210 watts RMS X 1 class D sub channel
2 ohms: 4 X 85 Watts RMS + 420 watts RMS X 1 class D sub channel

speakers are rated:
Pro 80s: 200 watts RMS each
Pro 60s: 150 watts RMS each
Kicker Sub: 400 watts RMS

am I taking crazy pills or is that amp way underpowered for those tower speakers and sub?? What should i do?

What are you getting in the way of cabin speakers? This amp is perfect for cabin speakers, and most people prefer the sub not be on the tower amp.

Change your order to MB8's and Pro 60's, better sound and then you could use the five channel amp. This is the set up there putting on my 22i.

Both the 60's and MB8's need 150W's RMS, or better, each. The mx/zx700.5 will fall short with the the double-Up as well. IMHO, I would rethink your tower speaker option.

That 700.5 is on ok amp, that's what my boat came with to power the entire thing (no tower speakers), not the worlds most powerful amp but it might get the job done. I have a Kicker 150.2 now (I think) powering the Pro 60's and I think I am going to go with either another one of those and run 1 per speaker or go with a 300.2 or larger.
