HELP - Kicker Amp with Wetsounds Pro 80s & 60s

I have a problem. I ordered my boat with a set of wetsounds pro 80 and a set of wetsounds pro 60. The sub is a 10" kicker vr. The dealer is recommending a 5 channel amp, the kicker 700.5, to power both sets of speakers and the sub.

    The amp is rated:
    4 ohms: 4 X 70 Watts RMS + 210 watts RMS X 1 class D sub channel
    2 ohms: 4 X 85 Watts RMS + 420 watts RMS X 1 class D sub channel

    speakers are rated:
Pro 80s: 200 watts RMS each
Pro 60s: 150 watts RMS each
    Kicker Sub: 400 watts RMS

am I taking crazy pills or is that amp way underpowered for those tower speakers and sub?? What should i do?

Would I be better off doing two seperate amps. Kicker has a vx 650.4 and a vx 350.2. Run the 350.2 bridged to the sub for 350 watts RMS at 4 ohms and then 650.4 to the two sets of tower speaks for 120 x 4 Watts RMS at 4 ohms?

Change your order to MB8's and Pro 60's, better sound and then you could use the five channel amp. This is the set up there putting on my 22i.

And also, the 5 channel amp is a marine rated amp, the other two individual amps are car amps. Does that matter?

I don't think it matters if you stay in fresh water.

That 700.5 is on ok amp, that's what my boat came with to power the entire thing (no tower speakers), not the worlds most powerful amp but it might get the job done. I have a Kicker 150.2 now (I think) powering the Pro 60's and I think I am going to go with either another one of those and run 1 per speaker or go with a 300.2 or larger.

I was told by wetsounds that the alpine 4.150 was perfect for the two sets of tower speakers. 80s and 60s. My dealer wants to stick with kicker.

The ZX700.5 is about 45w x 4 @ 4ohm, it will not get it done. The ZX850.4 would be the best in the Kicker lineup for the tower speakers, but is still a little light IMO. May what to get one from Wet Sounds. Call and talk to Gyver.

For the Sub, go with the ZX400.1

That sub is a duel voice coil and will be either 2ohm or 8ohm. Best not to bridge an amp at 2ohm. Go with a properly matched mono amp like the ZX400.1

The ZX650.4 is 170x4 @ 2ohm, which I think will net you about 85w rms to each speaker @ 4ohm. Phil can verify this for us.

I would run 2 separate amps. I run 3 in my boat. Chpthril is on the money about the 850.4 that will get the most out of your tower speakers and a solid single channel for your sub in the 400-650 range will work very well.

I use the 850.4 for my threesome on the tower and a 1500.1 for my 15" sub. and another 850.4 for the cabin speakers which I run 6.

The think about a boat is this you need to have power to be loud. You are outdoors with wind and other outside noise so you don't need some audiofile set up but do need enough power to make sure you can hear your music with all of the other noise. Plus you will end up finding out you will end up heating up the 750.5 if you play your tunes at any volume and will have heat issues with the amp. I boat in very hot temps and still will have the amps cut off when I push them too hard in the heat. But normally that is after 3-4 hours of solid play at a 50% volume
Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

This is a good question for someone like Phil or Tim, I dont know what the diff is. I see know problem with using any mobile audio amp on a trailerable boat as long as the installer uses a little common sense and locates it in an area that it will not get direct water/spray

I checked the manuals I have:

                              KX700.5
                              spec'd RMS at 4 x 70, 4 ohm, at 14.4V
                              spec'd RMS at 4 x 40. 4 ohm, at 12.5V

                              ZX700.5 (newer)
                              spec'd RMS at 4 x 70, 4 ohm, at 14.4V
                              no spec at 12.5V
