    Thinking about a new amp.

    Phil

Thinking about a new amp for my tower speakers. I think the zx350.4 is not the best match for them and they are under power. What are your suggestions/thoughts.

Current set up: ZX350.4, (4) KS65.2 component tower speakers wired one per channel.

Here is what I'm considering: ZX350.2 or the ZX650.4

    Thanks

    Thanks

Go with the 650.4 at 120+ watts per channel into each (slightly less than) 4-ohm load.

The 350.2 will deliver a little less power; not really noticeable, but the 640.4 at 4-ohms per channel has a real easy load to drive, and it will go all day. The 350.2 with a pair of parallel loads will be pulling basically double the current through the output devices, and will run hotter in all probability.

I will generally tend towards the 4-ohm per channel solution; it always results in a more stable thermal situation...

Thanks phil I knew there was more to it then just numbers, and that's the kind of info I like.

This will probably be my after Xmas/after ballast project.

I know my system wont beat CP3's 4 pro60's, but I can at least give him some comp @ next yrs Southeast Tige Owners Day.

We need to find someone who intends to use some of the new KMT6 product from Kicker. I can't do any deals, but I want to get some in front of a group and in comparison to the pro60's...

        (you hear that tim? )

I am very biased to the Elipse Amps that use ICE technology, because they provide more watts with less power consumption and they don't get hot. I can run my tower speakers all day in 100+ weather and the amps are only warm. They are the same as Alpine amps but just cheaper. I have the XA5000 for the boat speakers and sub and the XA4000 for the tower speakers:

          Eclipe Website

ICEpower technology revitalizes the amplifier line.

ECLIPSE’s latest power amplifiers feature new ICEpower technology. Seeing increasing use even in ultra high-end audiophile equipment, ICEpower advantages include superior audio quality, compactness and reduced energy demand as well as reliability. Employing ICEpower analog technology in ECLIPSE power amplifiers enable them to deliver stunning results in terms of linearity and reduced THD, increased dynamic range and high power stage efficiency. In an ICEpower analog circuit the analog signal is modulated into a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal with the Controlled Oscillation Modulator (COM). Then after the power stage, this PWM signal feeds back into the Multivariable Enhanced Cascade Control (MECC) where it is compared to the original input signal and any differences are compensated for to eliminate power stage-induced distortion. The post output filter analog signal also feeds back into the MECC that compensates for output filter load dependent characteristics. The end result is superb sound quality free from conventional Class D limitations.

                Sounds Fun!

I wish I could drag the RZ4 around to do some demos and attend these owners days and sound offs!!

For those who have heard it, and commented that it is the loudest boat they have ever heard. Just wait!! It is back under construction over the winter.

That is why I haven't posted up a lot of pics of it becuase everything in it was just temporary.

Well, I put 2 pair of the 60's on for another Tige owner (CP3 was or first Pimp my Tige winner) and with out even fine tuning the amp, they were amazing.........clear and load.

OMG, if it gets any louder you can start touring as the sound system for a band.

                        Too funny,

Dogbert. Did you go to the Tige Rail Jam on the steps of the capital last year? I had my old boat out there and there was also a live band. I was doing a demo and drownded out the band It was pretty cool.

No, but I wish I had. I suspect we'll be going if they have it again.

                            Phil,
Did Kicker come out with a speaker that is horn loaded? I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I am getting the the feeling that you may have something to do professionally with Kicker.

                            BTW, I love your location

Sharpest tool in the shed huh? I am trying to think of a "not-so-sharp" tool that would actually be in the shed, and the best I can come up with is a bowling ball... Not exactly a tool.

Yeah, I am the Marine and Specialty Markets manager at Kicker.

Kicker has a new horn-loaded tower product that is just now starting to ship. The product would be the KMT6 product I mentioned to Chpthril above.

I thought the location thing was pretty good too, but I have to share that G-money caused me to have the loaction idea, his is good too.
