OK so the story goes that Matt opened up there stero competition to everyone.
Dom and moki thinking the winner would be the loudest cranked it up. but this turned out not to be true and the winner was judged for clarity and no one knew this until after the comp....

Dom was deffinatly the loudest but not quite as clear.(didnt even turn the voulume all the way up )(NVS)

Moki was loud and clear. very nice (wetsounds)

winner dude was not nearly as loud but very clear. ( I think his name was tom)(sampson??)

The problem was that the ground rules weren't set out before going into the competition. It was one of those things that just kind of evolved. I think that the songs that were chosen also had something to do with the clarity, and the winner did chose some appropriate songs to emphasize his clarity. Domsz was impressive, but so was Moki. Moki's seemed to project more out to the sides while Domsz was impressive straight back. Either way, both were very loud and props to both. As mentioned on anthoer thread, I thought that the prize didn't fit the competition. A new prop. I think that the winner should have gotten some of the boat bright cleaner bottles or something small like that.

Next year the Sony's are gone and the Wetsounds will be in the house. I agree the rules need to be set. I heard Dom, Moki and Talltigeguy from way back on the lake when we were surfing. They are all loud and clear at abiout a mile back. Song selection is definately important in how it was handled. I had Talltigeguy in the lead after his first song and he got style points for the air guitar, Moki played we are the champions after his 2 song entries which I thought was great. Overall it was good to see and hear what other people have done!!
                Let it be!!!

I will say Talltige you were in the lead with the first song but the girls picked a second song that distorted your NVS and kinda messed it all up

I think next year we should add the distance portion of the contest like was originally talked about. That will show the true power behind those systems.
MOKI went out there and Played Queen's We are the Champions and I couldn't believe the great sound from that far of a distance.

I've gotta give it to Dom for having the loudest system and for all his work that he has put into it. He has batteries and subs all over his boat and has a sweet system. Congratulations Dom!

                        Thanks Moki,

I'll say that at least now I have heard what wetsounds can do. I think now that I have the system I have to rework my Subs. G-Money made the comment that the subs were loud, until I turned up the NVS's and then you couldn't hear anything. maybe a few LS7's are in order

Phil, oh Phil can you get me a deal

in regards to mine I went for loud, like we all thought so I know I distorted a bit. If we wanted clarity I would not have gone as loud and it would have been ultra clear! I need to work on tuning that's for sure. I liked Tall's for sure. His seemed to distort way before everyone else's.

The guy that won some people said they couldn't hear his across the cove when he played it.

I had a song picked out for the towers, as I thought we got to pick 4 songs, that just makes the NVS's scream and also is quiet every 5 seconds to allow the bass to kick up. Great song, but I wanted to play some fun (taking over) to add a good time to the sound off.

The systesms NVS and Wetsounds are hands down louder then everything else on the water. Now who's is louder, well the only way I can tell is if we bring a DB meter out next time, and set a certain area and where they are all played the same. Until then well I'm up for what ever, and think everyone out there had a loud system.

Moki's do project out to the sides more due to the way they are mounted and designed. Mine tend to project straight out also due to mount and design.

Next year or next time we all meet up I'll look into a db meter and we will do the 75 test like we wanted to do orginally.

then we can just do the sound like we thought and go from there.

I know that all three of us (Moki Tall Me) all distorted our tunes going for just loudness. The mic(DB meter) doesn't care if it's clear, it just goes for pure DB.

My original plan was to play the first song loud, and then play a slower song that has a more fuller richer sound with less volume. But, my kids talked me into playing their song as the second song and to play it loud. I didn't have mine turned up all the way either and if we were going for clarity, and like Dom said, I would have chosen a different song and would had my volume no more than 21 out of 35 on my stereo head. Also, we were too close to shore, the way our speakers project, they actually sound better further away than they do up close.

Regarding my speaker choice, the way I look at it is: You have to figure out why are you putting tower speakers on your boat. If it is for people on the boat or for playing while docked at the shore, then I would probably buy a system similar to the guy who won. But, I bought the tower speakers for the wakeboarder and waterskier to listen to music. So, I figured you need a speaker that can project good sound at least up to 80 feet and overcome the noise of the engine and wind (it needs to be loud) but not be overly loud for the people in the boat. So you need a horn loaded design like Wet Sounds or NVS that can project the music out. Secondly, if you are going for the wakeboarder, you don't always stay directly behind the boat when wakeboarding or waterskiing, so you need a speaker that can project to the range on the sides of the boat that you do your watersports in. Based on that criteria, the Wet Sounds seemed to be the best for me.

The thing I like about Dom's speakers (NVS) are that in addition to the horn loaded speaker, they have two 10" inch drivers per speaker rather than my horn loaded and two 8 inch drivers. But I guess the positive side is that it leaves more room for my bimini. Also, His bass (subwoofers not NVS) is amazing. Bottom line for me is that both speaker are excellent, a lot boils down to your personal taste and what your purpose is for having the speakers.

I don't do a lot of partying on the shore, we are typically out in the boat doing some kind of watersport - yes even tubing!

Next year, I do think it would be fun to bring a db meter and see what kind of volume everybody is putting out and then do a sound off with the same songs at 90 feet out and have the whole audience vote for their favorite. Also maybe break it out into different awards:

                            Best clarity
                            Most volume
                            Best Bass
                            Best Range
                            Best Overall

Now that we have done one, we have a whole year to think about. I don't blame Matt or the judges, it's clearly President Bush' fault. Either way, I had a blast this year and it was fun to listen to other systems see up close what Dom had done.

I know everyone tunes their system for a particular kind of music but I agree on the same song criteria. Everyone entering can nominate a song and then a randomly selected song would be used by everyone. I think everyone should be using a CD too as some of the iPod connections will definitely hurt the range and clarity but that would be the competitors decision.
