Tower Speaker/amp choice

I'm thinking of adding tower speakers to my 04 20V this winter, and I thought I would probably get some good advice on here.

I currently have the factory Clarion stereo, with their APX200.2M amplifier.
I don't want to spend a ton of money (preferably under $1K for parts).
I don't need a system that you can hear a mile away.
Also, I may have access to a sub from my son's car that he removed, or is it suggested to have a marine duty sub, or are they even needed?
Would this add-on system require a 2nd battery?

Does anybody have suggestions on a system that would fit this criteria? Keep in mind I am not a stereo guru, I do have an electrical background, and I did once stay at a Holiday Inn Express.....

I think there are a ton of quality options out there that would be in your price range. Just do some research and find a good match-up of amp out-put & speaker rec. and I think you would get a nice sounding set up
