Your amp needs to be on the same ground as your head unit. If it's not, voltage will build up between the two. This causes clicking or buzzing. In the worst case, it will eventually fry your amp. You may try installing a ground isolator (noise filter). It's designed to neutralize this.

What size wire are you running for the amp also.

Just went out to the boat amp turned right on with the radio as it should. Feedback from fan, blower, taps...

Power and ground for the amp both go to the battery. Im not sure what guage it is, doesnt say on the wire and I didnt install it. Our additional ground goes from the ground wire on the amp to a screw on the back of the headunit. Our dealer also spliced in the ground for the fan to that same gound.

Im not positive where the power and ground is for the headunit, they get lost in a bundle of wires and I dont want to go tearing it all apart. The headunit turns on with the key switch though.

straight to the battery, or to the ground at the amp, assuming it is near.

Alright Ill move it to the amp ground first and we will see what happens.

Ok went out to the boat turned the key amp didnt come on. I rewired it so that the main ground for the amp goes to the battery, The fan ground goes the the amp ground and the ground we ran to reduce noise is where it started from the amp to the HU. Still doesnt work, Its hotter then hell up here and the boats been sitting in the garage the past couple days so that may be contributing. Ill try later and if it comes on Ill see where we are with the noise.

Went back out, it came on once out of like 20 tries. When it came on I could still hear the fan through the stereo. I never got a chance to try the blower or taps, but I assume i would not have heard it.

Ok went out yet again. Amp turned on more frequently this time. With all additional grounds off (noise and fan) blower noise came through, taps, and when i turn the nav lights on theres a click. If I add the noise ground all of that goes away. If i take it off and add the fan directly to the amp ground, the fan comes through very loudly. Then If i put on both additional grounds, blower, taps, and nav lights go away but the fan is minimized quite a bit but I can still hear it. Before I run a wire all the way to the battery, I have another thought. Im thinking that If I run a bigger gauge wire to reduce the noise it will take care of the fan completely. Will that work or is my common sense lying to me?
