    Speaker wiring question

Ok, I suck at ohms law and everything, but found some good reading. I'm going to post data on the amps and the subs, and then draw how I would wire them.

Sp or chpthril, or anyone else, would you check to make sure my theory is correct?

    Thanks in advance.

    First drawing.

    Amp, PPI PCX-1500
    1 channel 4 ohm is 500 2 ohm is 1000

    Sum
    Orion XPL DVC
    500 watts RMS, 2 or 8 ohm.

next one is a kicker 10" solarbaric.

    same amp

    kicker is 2 ohm, 500 rms/1000 peak

      Dom-

      First:

The drawing in #1 shows wire conencted between literally every terminal. I hope this is a mistake in drawing, as what yoiu drew would create a dead-short.

Secondly, for both diagrams, we would want to know the DCR or impedance of each individual coil in order to determine the final impedance that the speaker will present. the Kicker dual voice coil speakers are available with 4 ohm coils or two ohm coils...

Simply put, wiring two coils in series allows you to just add up the individual coils; i.e. a couple of 2-ohm coils in series will deliver 4 ohms.

If you are going to wire in parallel, AND IF the two coils have the same impedance, (ohms) the resultant impedance will be halved; i.e. two 4-ohm coils in parallel give you a two ohm load.

      It's not an optical illusion.

Hey, you changed the pic in post 1 !!!!!!!!!!

Now both are correct. Yow are comparing two woofers, both DVC, and both have dual 2-ohm coils. Series wired, they will present a 4-ohm load, so the amp will deliver 500 watts to the speaker.

          last one

          2 alumapro 12" subs
500 rms 1000 peak, and they are 4 Ohms

          Same amp.

yup! you got it!!! IF you are using two subs on that amplifier, wire them in parallel so that the amp see a 2-ohm load. Each sub will get 500 watts, and the amp is putting out 1000.

ok, i was reading this tutorial, and just wanted to make sure I had it all right. I'm really bad on all the numbers and everything.

Ok, now here is another STUPID question but I'm asking.

The amp is a 1 channel amp, by 1 channel it means it can do 2 speakers. A channel being a "right and a left" If this amp says 4 ohms on on channel and it does 500 watts, does that mean that each speaker is going to get 250 watts? If this is the case I should do my wiring to represent a 2 ohm load.

              thanks.

ha ha ha, you just answered my question before I even asked it.

so, this is how the 12's would be wired, and I would use just one + from the amp and one - from the amp.

Have a fun safe weekend everyone!!

Dom, don't create any seismic events, okay?

and this is the same with the orion 10's, again just using one + and - from the amp.

I am hoping for one. I want some ocean front property in Sacramento.

well if i'm only using one + and one - from the amp, then the sub is only gonna get 250 right? or what?
