I did notice phil that when I turn the ipod down, it appears the "crackling" goes away. It was getting late, and I didn't have time to "retune" the other amps to the lower ipod level. I'll try that before I go and buy a new HU. I'm just worried though if it can't handle it, what happens when some drunk idiot turns it up full strength. If I recall last night when I was playing with it when I turned the ipod down and the HU to 30 it didn't appear to be any cracklling.
I'm just using RCA inputs for the HU and the IPOD.
Based on what you just shared, I will strongly recommend that you are just clipping the AUX INPUT's front-end, or clipping the output of the iPod. There is not much you can do to prevent an ID-10-T error with a volume control, especially when you spill a lot of alcohol on or into the control-input device. However, I might recommend the installation of an RCA - level volume control between the iPod and the H/U. Set it, hide it, and forget it.
This will hopefully allow the iPod to run at full volume, (assuming the iPod output is not clipping on its own) and then you can set/adjust the hidden volume control so it plays at roughly the same volume as the radio and the CD.
What do you think about that?
It's not an optical illusion.
It just looks like one.....
phil I LOVE that idea!! where can I get an RCA level adjuster? that sounds like a cheap way as opposed to getting a new HU. I mean I'll have to upgrade HU down the road, but would prefer not to. I was thinking about upgrading just so I could get one with a high output for the bow speakers, but I have another way to control those I think, without using bass blockers.
I'll try this out, see if I can get it to work, and if I can then I'll look for an RCA controller, I could hide it under the dash and no one would EVER KNOW

It is just an RCA volume control trim pot. Same thing as what others have installed between H/U and amplifier(s). They are available all over the place.

Well I kind of have that thing on my equalizer already. it has a vol adjustment for all the different outputs. I'll try that first. I thought I played with that last night though and it didnt' work.
I was hoping it would just be a ground loop, but everything is in perfect order except for that. Those NVS's scream so loud, I can't wait for the fall reunion If Moki's are louder, wow I'll just be totally dumb founded. It will be fun none the less, I hope everyone is coming!!

Dom-
Volume control on the EQ outputs will not affect it probably. What I am suggesting is that the amplitude of the signal coming out of the iPod (at full volume) is strong enough that the INPUTS of your electronics cannot handle it. The volume control, when placed between the iPod and the H/U, should reduce the volume output of the iPod enough that the inputs CAN handle it.

Dom, one thing I have noticed when using an ipod thru the aux in or the headphone jack is the volume setting on the ipod. Too low and you crank up the HU and get alot of distortion/backround hiss. I usually set the ipod at almost max volume and adjust the HU. Poor digital copies cranked to the max can also cause bad playback. Just a few things to consider.
Hope you fix it.
I don't know. All my music is from my friend who ripps it. I'm musically challenged and have no clue of names. Heck I don't even have a comp at home anymore as mine crashed. I'll be buying a mac pro in aug when I get a room mate and the net at the house, until then I'm just happy with what ever I hack from other peoples comps
