No idea what it is, is it just a black copper primary wire?

Correct. Slightly larger than the speaker leads

transom remote works fine. shows station etc. I also noticed that the buttons don't work (volume etc) if I'm on battery 1

          update

4ohm sub swapped out verified ohm load at amp 4.4ohm, connect - to chnl5 + to chnl6 as shown in manual

sub worked for about 5-10m then stopped while I was tweaking settings, sub knob mostly. sub doesn't really sound if knob is turned all the way down.
after sub stopped I move -/+ to chnl5, no sound, -/+ to chnl6 no sound, hmmm move to chnl 4 no sound.

swapped around all RCAs to verify RCAs not a problem. tried fader controls, gains, xover etc

the extra black wire was traced all the way back to HU ground.connected to SYN6 ground and now Touch working well on 1 or 2 batteries.

so what would be my next step in troubleshooting???? I guess I could try putting the sub bridged on the syn2 to see if something is different and move the pro60 to chnl5/6 just to test things.

Totally normal, as the knob is just a volume control for the woofer.

Id start by returning everything back to where and how it was when the woofer at least playing. Just make sure the 5/6 gain is no more than 25% for now. Normal amp light? Protect light solid or flashing? Other speakers on Syn-6 continued to play normal after the woofer stopped?

Before hooking the woofer to another amp or hooking any speakers to chnls 5 or 6 of the Syn-6, I would pull the woofer leads off the amp and ohm the woofer. This will tell you with 99% accuracy, if the woofer is the issue.

Which head unit RCA output is the woofer using?

What was the gain, cross-over filter and cross-over frequency, bass boost, 12 or 12 dB, prior to the woofer stopping

amp lights normal, chnl 1-4 play no problem with no cutout. I tried chnl5, chnl6 and bridged across 5/6
gain knob turns alot. maybe it is stripped. it does not seem to have the same degree of turn than the other gain controls.

the new woofer is brand new 4ohm so I doubt the woofer is the issue
using purple non fade and non-fade control now does nothing
all controls started where you told me before for tuning.

is there some voltage I can measure on the outputs?

Gain knob will have a 0 stop and max stop, no question.

Makes no matter. Bad source input or incorrect amp settings can blow a speaker in a just a few minutes, whether the woofer is 10 minutes old or 10 years. Your Ohm check noted earlier proved it was good out of the box, but dont assume its still good now.

Whats the non-fad level set to?

Yes, output voltage on each chnl as well as bridged, can be measured.

I'll check the woofer again in the morning
non-fade set to +6 but tried all ranges
what should the output voltage be

If the non-fade is the source for the Syn-6 on chnls 5/6 bridged to a 10fa, thats dangerously hi.

here is the tuning guide you sent me

Using page 4 of the manual. Check the corresponding dials and switches. Download manual https://wetsounds.com/media/products...ser_Manual.pdf

                      For the sub:

                      #3 = 11 oclock
                      #5 = Zero
                      #6 = 12 oclock
                      #7 = IN
                      #8 = IN
                      #13 = Out/Direct
#11 = Sub RCA's; Fade the head-unit front to rear and see if the sub fades or if its level stays constant. If its stays constant, then those RCA's are connected to the head-unit's purple non-fade outputs. Go into the head-unit menu and find the non-fade level setting and make sure its up to high.

Now for the in-boats on chnls 1-4:

                      #1 and #2 = 11 oclock
                      #12 IN/From ch 1/2
                      #14 and #16 = 11 oclock
                      #15 and #17 OUT/Stereo

ok woofer still good. measuring 4.3ohm

got sub working again after messing with settings over and over and unplugging remote volume knob etc. it seems like this has something to do with it.

anyhow, what should I set sub knobs to in bridge mode. currently
                        #3 at 12oclock
                        #6 at 45
                        #5 at zero

                        HU bass set to 2
                        HU non-fade set to +2
sub volume knob half-way, can't feel bass lower than that really.

thanks for all the help btw

You've chopped off about 2/3 of the woofers operating range. Needs to be about the 12 oclock position. The only difference between running a sub on one chnl or bridging, is the gain level.

adjusted back to 12oclock. sub bottoms out very quickly, can't get it tuned to be effective. I think I'm ready to punt this and have a local shop redo the helm with a 12". I'm tired of dealing with it.

Gains too high and you still have an unknown small sealed enclosure on a woofer that doesnt want a small sealed enclosure.

box maybe. it is not exactly a space I can measure as it is very oddly shaped and the helm coaxial shares the space. gain is set very low, turned all the way down then maybe a 1/4 turn up. the gain knob has about 420 degrees of rotate
