The m1200 is the prime line, the pm1000 is the punch line. Everything I'm reading says the punch is the better line of amps. Yes those are the prices I saw too.. I think I could justify the $500-$700 range, just can't go to the 1k and above like the SD2

My bad, don't know why I typed that there and not in front of the m-series.. For that range I would choose between the two listed and the Arc Xdi1100.1 or KS1200.1. JL and WS run close, so both are out... You could entertain a lower grade amp from another manufacturer but it's a step down in quality below the ones posted.

I looked at the xdi1100, correct me if I'm wrong, are the tuning controls on the bottom side? As in can't get to them once the amp is mounted? That's gonna be a deal breaker for me. By the time I get everything mounted in the space I've got available for an amp rack.. It gonna be tough to adjust settings on that thing. My bad, just looked again, that top piece must come off.. Don't know why I would think they were on the bottom...

So you and Mike both appear to be Arc dealers.. In your opinions, is the Xdi1100.1 gonna be a better amp than the fosgate pm1000.1? The fosgate is marine rated and a bit more money MSRP, but you've said ARC is a better product.. How so?

The two + are common to each other internally and so are the - posts. Just double terminals but still only one chnl amp.

The tuning controls on the XDi series are under the removable shroud. They are right on the top making tuning real easy after mounting. The back lite emblem is rotatable so it can be oriented once the amp is mounted.

Ive had excellent success with the Arc amps. Ive been using the XDi series since their release.

Basically it is a better built amplifier, it has better quality components (from terminals to the filtering) making it easier to tune and the sound quality is improved as well. The controls are under the aluminum facia plate, so you can access them easily for tuning.
We deal with both products, which means I back both brands, so if it were me, my personal preference would be the xdi.. Why? Because I see a better quality amplifier all around in the xdi than the RF, Not to say the RF can't get the job done though. Many people want the upgraded factory brand their boat came with and that is fine. Let's just say I've replaced Rockford but yet to replace Arc. Fun choice huh?

Which model of KX 1200.1 do you have?

The older version was 1ohm stable and only ran 600 watts at 2 ohm. The newer version is only 2 ohm stable.

The answer to this question will change your options.

If I had that amp and was looking to upgrade I would get a JL12W7, very similar enclosure needs as the XXXv2 (needs 1.75 ported). You can find them online for about $700-$800 and the 3 ohm load will give you about 750 watts from that amp which is great for that sub.

I run 2 10w7's on a Rockford bd1500 and could not be more pleased with the the sound and reliability. I have 2 Rev10's and a Rev410 on my tower along with 6 Rockford coax inboats. When I had the single 10w7 it kept up fine but adding the second one sounds even better.

Your w7 talk intrigues me... But with my current amp, that 750 watt 3 ohm load is leaving a potential 450 watts unused.. That seems wasteful

It will be easier on your equipment and not cause as much current draw while still giving you the sound you need. I have 2/0 gauge copper welding lead running my amps to support the current draw. Fine for me but a lot of people skimp on those things because it is expensive to do it right.

How are you figuring the 750 RMS from my amp at 3 ohm? If I make 1200 at 2 ohm and 600 at 4 ohm, per my spec page.. Wouldn't I be more like 900 at 3 ohm?

Being conservative and figuring at 12.8-13.2 volts instead of 14.4

Gotcha... So in the opinion of the forum:
Would a 750 watt 12w7 be better than an 1100 watt XXX? I mean of course I would only have to buy a speaker instead of both speaker and amp, so we're talking cheaper... But output wise how do these speakers, given their recommended wattage, compare? Seems to me the 1100 watt XXX would be louder do to power, but for all I know JL uses some kind of magic voice coil
