Bjax 2015 R20 Build is Underway

Current Setup: Base Level stereo consisting of two pair Wet Sounds XS-650 on head-unit and Surf Level ballast.

New Build: Wet Sounds XS-10fa under the helm to compliment the existing in-boats. The in-boat system will be driven by the new Wet Sounds HTX-6 Class-D marine 6 chnl amp. 300W rms for the sub and 100W rms to each of the 4 XS-650

Rev-8 with fixed clamps driven by the new HTX-4 Class-D marine 4 chnl for 300W rms to each Rev-8.

OEM 350 lb rear surf sacs are getting upgraded to a pair of Fly High W005 Tige Surf sacs for 600 lb net increase per side

I like the changes in the new HTX series amps. The standoffs are now part of the chassis and seem to maybe be a little higher for more room underneath the amp to hide the cabling. Controls are front mounted and under a panel. Allen tool is included for removing access panel screws.

Although we are not using one in this build, I see that the new HTX-1 now has an adjustable subsonic filter. Much more flexible for sub installs.

Mounting hole cut to reveal the too small box/enclosure

9" hole cut in back wall to open the box up into the bow locker cavity. This allows a proper air space for an Infinite-Baffle woofer like the XS-10fa.

Nice. If I were to remove my factory installed XS-10fa and look back there I assume I wouldn't find a second hole leading into the bow. If I cut a hole would I notice a performance difference in the sub?

        SD,

I do not know the structural evolution of the R20, so its a good chance that your woofer is also housed in a small cavity like that. Its only mounted with 6 screws, so removing it for inspection is worth the few minutes its going to take.

If you find the woofer is indeed housed in a small cavity, its a must to open it up. These woofers are designed to perform best with a large air space behind them. Something in the 2.5 ft3 and larger. it may also be worth revisiting the amp tuning after the inspection and mod is done. Also, if you do pull the woofer out, make a note of its coil configuration as in if its a single 4 ohm or a dual 4 ohm voice coil. There should be a sticker on the back, but we can also determine whats needed by knowing if the woofer has 1 pair or 2 pair of terminals.

I also have a 15 R20. Had the stock 900# ballast and upgraded by adding 2 w005's to the rear lockers. Got them from Mikes Liquid Audio. The wave is enormous for this 20ft boat, I was and am very pleased.

Main power cabling routed and breaker mounted. Cables are connected to the battery, switch and breaker. Distribution block mounted and branch cables routed. Amps loosely mounted.

Main breaker for the amp's trunk line

Shout out to the Tige crew for cutting the unused head-unit wires down to a nub. Made it real fun releasing the blue/wt turn-on wire from the connector so I could solder on a usable pigtail.

Got the port side Fly High W005 plumbed in. There are definitely some changes to the 2015 plumbing configuration. Relocated the vent line to the forward most top fitting and moved the fill all the way to aft fitting.

What's the difference between the w005 and w004? Is it just the length of the part under the seating? I'm looking to upgrade soon.

                        Yes, the leg is longer.

The W004 has a total length of 59" and the W005 has a total length of 84". Theres only a $20 difference in retail cost, so I like to suggest the W005 for the extra 200 lbs.

Just not sure if I would want to loose the storage behind the drivers seat. Could you have the leg part folded up and not use it on the bigger one? Thanks for the quick responses

In an R20, the W005 will stop right about at the forward edge of the seat opening. So it will take up just about all of that side storage. The W004 will end right about at the beginning of the seat storage. Storage is only lost when the sac is filled though. One positive is that the loss of weight between the 005 and the 004 is at the end of the leg, which is along the side of the boat, and no loss of wight in the main section in the locker. There will also always, we hope, be a driver in the captains chair.
