    which 6.5

I'm replacing my 6.5's in the boat. I listened to jl audio mx650 and wetsounds xs650 yesterday. Between the jl and the wet sounds, I liked the jl better. I have not heard the Kicker km654lcw and was wondering opinions on them?

    Thanks - Shaun

The .75" soft dome tweeter of the JL MX is certainly one of the warmest marine speakers out there. When underway, the larger 1" tweeter of the Wet Sounds XS-650 can have a slight advantage competing with the wind, water and engine noise. I have been really pleased with the new KM654. Excellent balance and very smooth. No hesitation to drive them with upwards of 100W rms. In addition to the LEDs, Chrome grills will soon be available for the KM654.

I've recently upgraded my 4 cabin speakers with the wet sounds xs650 rgb... Still don't have near enough amp on them, as that will be a winter project, but they are already everything I thought they could be. I personaly cant compare them with the kicker or JL because I'm coming up from some kenwood marines, but we are extremely happy with these wet sounds. Another thought.. Do you have tower speakers or are you planning on some? Its probly just me being OCD, but I like to match everything.. If it was me starting fresh, I would probly build my system around the tower speakers I like the most.. My advice would be to listen to whatever mike says.. He's probly installed all 3 of your questioned brands numerous times..

No question the wet sounds are great sounding speakers. They seem to have a wider range than the jl's, but the jl's sounded cleaner at higher volumes in my opinion. And since I will have a sub, that is why I perfered the jl's. I ask about the kicker because, of course the led's are cool and I think the kids will like them. So Mike, I don't want to invest a whole lot but want a nice clean sound. I grew up in the day when MB Quart were some of the best components, jl subs were the ticket, and old school punch amps and Orion HCCA's won a lot of competitions. With that said I've been out of the scene for about twenty years now. I'm going to go with the kicker kmt674's for towers and a jl sub. Do you think I will be happy with the kicker km654's? Thank you all for the input. Thanks - Shaun

Both Kicker and Wet Sounds offer RGB LEDs, JL only comes with blue. Custom LED rings can be done as well.

With any full range marine coax, you would want to run it in high pass, so a sub is essential for a well balanced system. Even without a sub, id still run them HP and would likely not cross either any lower then the other.

MBQ, RF and Orion are not the smallish innovative companies they were back in the day. JL is top of the food chain in a lot of regards.

Sound can be so subjective. I do not believe you would be unhappy with the KM654, but after demoing all side by side, it may not be the one your ears tell you sounds the best. From a construction standpoint, the KM654 is a very well built marine speaker, as is the Wet Sounds and JL. Enclosed magnet. composite basket, rubber surround, composite cone, sealed leads and UV inhibitors.
