    LED Wiring Question

I've seen a ton of vids on YouTube of guys just wiring LED strips/rings into their speaker wires at the amp to make them pulse with the bass.. Is this ok? I realize the wet sounds controller is the best option, but until I buy one, can it be done this way. I mean obviously it works because I've just watched a bunch of vids, but is it harmful to the LEDs?

I would normally say the wetsounds RGB controller is the best out there, but have had several stereo shops say different. This is the one I used and it works great for a lot less price. The WS has a cheap plastic casing while this model has a stronger metal type casing and will withstand more abuse. Beware the strips are a PITA to keep soldered and fall apart at the seams. As far as harmful I would say no as they run at such low voltage and have a long life expectancy anyway.

Two considerations. 1) LEDs are really DC and music is AC. 2) the impedance of the LEDs can impact the load on the amp, which effects the power output. Using a music interface controller is best. If you are going with RGB, you need a controller anyway to get the multiple color options.

Ive never had an issue with the plastic case taking abuse. If its going to get abused, then the installer needs to do a better job and find a better place to install it. But, have you handled the new Wet Sounds RGB revision released late last year? Just keep in mind that the Wet Sounds unit is made for the marine environment, while the others are typically intended for home/internal use. id worry more about corrosion on a PCB then a plastic housing.

The Wet sounds is a 2 chnl and handles more load.

JLG - just wanted to let you know that I got my wet sounds controller today, and it has a metal casing with heat sink tabs on the sides... Guess they've probly heard your "plastic case" complaint before

Yes I wouldn't even of given it a thought had it not been a couple stereo shops saying something about the plastic ones WS made would fail sooner then the one I linked. Great news!
