    Amp Troubleshooting

I was hoping someone could help me troubleshoot an amp problem I'm having.

Each time I get in my boat after a few days not using it, I turn it on and everything work except my sub. When turning the key on, the sub makes a weird humming noise and then nothing. The amp power light isn't on, but the amp is receiving power according to my meter.

I remove the speaker wires from the amp, and the amp power light then starts flashing likes it's in protection mode. I then remove the power wire to the amp and then reconnect the power wire. After reconnecting.... the power light stays on and it appears it's working. I reconnect the speaker wires and the sub works for the rest of the day.

Wait a few days....go to boat....repeat the above!

I have a similar issue where me amp seems to cut in and out - either when I haven't been in the boat for a day or two, or even when in use. Tried all the connections and nothing. The amp will cut out, then all of a sudden it works again. Anyone know what's going on?

Have you made sure the blue wire has voltage (remote turn on)? if yes then your good

Get your meter on your subwoofer. Does it measure properly? Ie..is it between 1.5 to 5 ohms? If not, then check sub wiring or replace sub.

Buy Replacement sub or amp from Chpthrl! Best service around!

Check your battery voltages if you are having odd start-up issues.

Does the sub make any noise when you turn the key on but leave the head-unit off? Have you checked the voltage across the amp power cables as well as on the turn-on terminal with both the system on and off?

Sounds like thermal shut down, can you give more details about the system, such as amp model, how many speakers its powering and what models? How is the amp mounted, as in direct to a carpeted wall? What gauge cable feeds it. Voltage at amps while in use?
